  • Edit:
I hope I didn't offend anyone with what Josh said about Zuri's itty bittyness. I was meaning to portray that it was cool hear Josh on board with me in whatever way he can.  I also think both formula fed babies, and exclusively breastfed babies can be both big and small.  I just wanted to clear that up, I hope I didn't offend anyone!
    End Edit

Do the bags under my eyes go away as the littles get older?...don't answer that. I bet the bags would go away if I went to bed earlier...Josh and I have been watching the first season of Hero's. Besides the sleezey Jekel & Hyde chick, oh and the scary guy who steals brains...I like it. Last night, though Hosanna went to bed at 7, we went to bed much later. Watching a total of 5 episodes in one night...sooo that explains the bags under my eyes.

Zuri is already a month old. Happy one month to her yesterday...look, her little checks are chubbing out...just a little tiny bit.

I cringe when someone exlaims "She's so tiny!" Yes, yes I know...we grow little bity ones. I cringe because it was such drama with Hosanna, and though things are just fine with Zuri I can't help but being just a little afraid when someone says she's "so small". I was complaining to Josh about the Tiny statements last night, he told me "of course they think she's so small, everyone is used to huge chunky formula fed babies"...what a good guy...that's why I married him. Ok, that's not why, but it sure is a nice perk!

    --------------------------------
The fall colors here have been pretty much gone for about a month now. It's sad I know. But the house across the street from us, suddenly just exploded with color in the last week. Well, it's pretty much gone now. But let me tell you, that little bit of time was amazing to see such blazing yellow and orange. I tried to capture it, a little bit to late I think. But you'll get the idea...and of course, Hosanna volunteered to model.

Her two year old energy only lasted a very short time however, and off she ran to her next activity. It's really fun to watch her learn. She just learned how to pedal her bike recently...and she'll let you know. It's quite the big deal. Now she can keep up with any kid.

She's perfect, Grace. She is itty bitty, but perfectly healthy and beautiful.
Everyone always talked about how chubby my kids were with the comments like...do you think you feed them enough? or...put that kid on a diet! Which was always frustrating because they were both exclusively breastfed. Each kid is different...
Unschooling...I don't know. I think I would've done much better with unschooling because I don't learn well from textbooks or being told things. I have to see things for myself, which is why I think college never worked very well for me. I'm just going to try and adapt to each of my kid's learning capabilities. If they learn better with textbooks, we'll do textbooks. If they learn better with unschooling methods, that's what we'll do. I'm just going to try and teach them each on an individual basis and accommodate their little brains.

Such cute little girls you guys have.

I thought it was the other way around though.. I thought breast fed babies were chubbier than forula fed babies. I think it depends on the kid. My mom had SMALL babies. We were all 6. something pounders and I think we were little until we got past our first couple of months. We were all formula fed babies. Well except for the first couple of weeks I think.
My niece and nephew were breast fed and they were BIG babies. Same with most of the babies from day care.
Avry was formula fed, but he was very much in the middle of the road. He had some chub, but not a BIG baby.

Oh I'm making food and it's probably going to burn, so i better go. ahhh ahaha

I think Zuri looks WONDERFUL, Grace! She looks young, but not tiny. (Of course, we had a teeny tiny baby, so maybe that's my "norm"!) Honestly, the difference between her smallness and Hosanna's is incredible. Zuri looks very healthy!

Unschooling-- I think it's ridiculous. Obviously there's a lot a child can learn on his/her own, but I think those are mostly the "street smart" things, things that will make them simply able to survive. I definitely think schooling should be more structured than that. I especially think that if a child wants to be able to go on to a traditional college eventually, that the total lack of structure and direction the child is accustomed to would be a huge obstacle to overcome. Of course, I think there are relatively few who commit to the purest form of unschooling. You should look in Michigan's laws on homeschooling. Indiana doesn't have any except that the parent needs to report that the child is being homeschooled-- but most states are much more rigid-- in PA, parents have to report to the government, and in some states teachers come into the home to make sure a child is being taught academic standards.I know, I'm opinionated. But I've seen a certain family practice unschooling, and I'm far from impressed with their children academically, socially or behaviorally. And, of course, I'm a teacher. HAHA!

  • Romans12_2

Before I submitted that I meant to write that it seems that the families who do practice unschooling seem to do it just because they want to be different. They like the controversy or the attention of it or something. So if you do end up unschooling, make sure you do it for the right reasons!

  • cansummer

I've never heard of 'unschooling' so i don't know.

I think they are just saying she is tiny...b /c she is tiny...she's only a month old.  that's a tiny baby.  and honestly you don't see babies out that young a whole lot.  A lot of people stick very close to home for the 1st few months...especially the ones who don't have good sleepers...(like me)  lol

so i think it's just her age, not her size....but i understand why you'd worry though..i'm sure i would.

  • WhatASweetPotato

J says the same thing when people say how tiny Joe is  practically everyone ff's where we live and i've only seen nursing mom's maybe once or twice out in public.

  • XeverybodyXduckX

Are you sure people aren't just saying she is so small because she's only a month old? I comment on how small babies are just because they are tiny, not because I'm comparing them to others. Obviously, it depends on the person and the context of their comment. Bella Grace has always been tiny, taking forever (like 2 or 3 weeks) to regain her birth weight, so I understand. Even now she's so small (24lbs) and people comment all the time, but I try not to worry. It's easier not to worry at 2 y/o than one month though. And with your situation with Hosanna as a baby, I can understand the worry with Zuri.

  • AdelaisMommy

adelai was very small and it upset me when people commented on it and she was EBF. tommy was HUGE and EBF until 9 months. they are all different! :)

  • ChrissyFunk

I wasn't offended. Well maybe a little. Not really by you. Just that some people can be so judgemental about formula feeding. I had to, I wanted to breast feed, but couldn't. So sometimes I feel yicky about the whole subject.

Ahh yes and I think Zuri looks VERY healthy and just little because she is little as in she's just a new baby still.

  • wildflowerwendy
You know what, I think people just forget how small newborns are in general. So when you see one it's like "wow," she's so small!! Regardless of how she compares to average size babies or whatever. Speaking of size, Hosanna's really getting big!! What pretty pictures of her!
  • wildflowerwendy
PS What's all this about unschooling? Never heard of it. Did I miss a post?
  • tmdurant

I always comment on how "little" babies are when they're new.  We do forget...at least I do when a new baby comes along in our house how little they are as newborns.  It'll be very different in a few months.  Ezekiel was breast-fed via bottle for the first 5 months.  He came out a big boy...9 and a half lbs.  Then he's been on formula since then...he's grown at the same rate with both.  There was no difference.  All kids are different.

Did I miss something about unschooling?  Thanks for the midwife info.  I'm still on the hunt.  I'm actually thinking about doing an unassisted homebirth.  We're still praying.

  • Julia_Anne

Zuri is sooo cute Grace! I love seeing her little face! She looks like she's doing fine. That pic of her and Josh is so sweet too. oh man the colors are amazing (and of course HOsanna is the perfect model :) I miss the fall colors up there so much! Scott said LaCrosse was gorogeous this last weekend. We went to our WIC appointment yesterday and Susanna was 9lb 8oz, that was a shocker! We also learned that STory is a bit short , haha.
The only thing I really know about unschooling is what I've read on mothering actually.  I think it's a neat idea as long as your kids want to learn the basics as well as the "fun " stuff :) ha... but I think some textbooks might be necessary too... not sure. I do know that my parents saw an interview recently with some top guy in the Christian homeschooling circle. I can't remember his name. Anyway he said that he thought especially little boys didn't need to start school until age 8 if they are going to be public schooled, and that they all caught up after 6 months!

  • Spring_Joy

it is definatly an individual thing! My babies tend to chunk up like crazy at first then slow down after 6-8 months.  and both of ours are ebf so there you go!

HOpe you get some sleep! It's hard when you get a whole season not to just sit and do a marthon!

  • Joni467

    I AM SO OFFENDED!! (kidding)

Zuri is cute cuz she's little. I think I am one of those people who tend to say "She's so Little" cuz the baby looks so cute and one does not often see little ones.

Unschooling? I think I also missed a post. I have my doubts about unschooling as I'm sure you can guess... people just aren't likely to push themselves if it is not necessary..kids OR adults for that matter. The only way it could succeed would be a motivation to learn... like a home business, and no technical distractions like *a-hem* Halo 3.

  • SarahElizabeth1978

    1) I've heard that by the time the bags under the eyes go away, they've turned to wrinkles. Not encouraging, I know.  I have them too. :)

    2) Zuri looks nice and healthy to me.  Elijah is breast fed exclusively and he's gigantic! (14 lbs at 12 weeks old)  I think it has more to do with ME having extra fat stores, ya think?

    3) those photos are lovely with the leaves. our trees are in the middle of changing just now.

  • Joni467

Oops on the weight thing! I knew something was wrong... but just wasn't sure. LOL. I am a ditz fer sure.
