  • The power of good habits...

June 15 --Get a Move On

    "And beside this . . . add . ."
    2 Peter 1:5

You have inherited the Divine nature, says Peter (v.4), now screw your attention down and form habits, give diligence, concentrate. "Add" means all that character means. No man is born either naturally or supernaturally with character, he has to make character. Nor are we born with habits; we have to form habits on the basis of the new life God has put into us. We are not meant to be illuminated versions, but the common stuff of ordinary life exhibiting the marvel of the grace of God. Drudgery is the touchstone of character. The great hindrance in spiritual life is that we will look for big things to do. "Jesus took a towel . . . and began to wash the disciples' feet."

There are times when there is no illumination and no thrill, but just the daily round, the common task. Routine is God's way of saving us between our times of inspiration. Do not expect God always to give you His thrilling minutes, but learn to live in the domain of drudgery by the power of God.

It is the "adding" that is difficult. We say we do not expect God to carry us to heaven on flowery beds of ease, and yet we act as if we did! The tiniest detail in which I obey has all the omnipotent power of the grace of God behind it. If I do my duty, not for duty's sake, but because I believe God is engineering my circumstances, then at the very point of my obedience the whole superb grace of God is mine through the Atonement.

Again, this is from "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers

    Blessings on this Father's Day!!!

Adding? Math has never been my strong point. I think flowery beds of ease sound pretty doggone good right now! :)

Good post.  And now, back to character building.

You know, I REALLY needed to read this today.  Thank you for posting it. **deep breath*

Hi Rhonda--Did I read your profile correctly---10 children?  Thanks for visiting my xanga site. I really appreciate that. I am an old guy of 74, married 52 years to the same woman, and retired 12 years. We both became Believers on Feb. 13, 1985. Jesus changes everything.

I so agree with your posting---God is in the details. I fully supported everything that Oswald wrote. I normally like easy reads. Norma likes Oswald. the old British preacher (forget his name) .She likes the deep stuff.

I have been in Xanga for about a year, and have enjoyed it. I was shocked to find a missionary in Shanghi--They pay and house her to teach English and they don't care if she evangelizes. That never reaches the Christian news.

My wife took an 18 day road trip with a friend in Ohio. I have been taking care of 95 and 93 year old MIL and Auntie.

Thanks again for the visit. My wife also likes denim skirts and T-s. I think you have lots in common with her. Sadly, she hates anything Internet and barely tolerates me being on it.

    God bless you.

    Good Night

@NVRSAD_DAY - Yes, you read it right!! I have pictures in my photoblog of them... Glad you liked the Oswald Chambers, some of them are easier reads than others, this one I thought useful and pertinent for today's young people trying to figure out their lives... You are doing an amazing job, I hope the MIL and Auntie are doing well? and you too!  Thanks for visiting. Greetings to your wife when she should return from her trip :)

    Hi Rhonda,

Yes, we had a great time together.....it feels just like when they were younger, the laughter and then you realize they are grown when they have to leave to return to their homes!

Hope you had a good Father's Day too,

Blessings to you and your family, we so appreciate your prayers!  Thanks!

    I love it!

    Basically, look what we've got!

Now be thankful, but quit being spooky spiritual; roll up your Holy Ghost sleeves and get to work to make something of it with the grace you've been given!

Just wanting to stop by and say thanks for commenting on my "Anniversary Post". We had a wonderful day and enjoyed dinner with our son (who actually paid for it) at Texas Road House. It was fun sharing our "story" with my many friends here at Xanga. God bless, and again, Thanks!!!
