As usual, I'm here blogging instead of over in my "work" screen getting things done. Ah, well, the homeschool group doesn't really need their yearbook by the end of April, do they? I'd like to blame my lack of motivation on spring, but the fickle lady seems to have taken one glance at Western Nebraska and left us to our own devices for the remainder of the season.
Nevertheless, spring is my favorite season (except for in fall, when fall is my favorite, and in winter, when winter is my favorite...summer is never my favorite) and the topic of this month's Featured_Grownups site, so I think I'll expound.
For me, it's the anticipation. I don't think there's another season I wait for like spring. I enjoy fall and winter, but I truly look forward to the arrival of the first green stems poking through the grass, the first day when you can sit outside and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, that first rainshower. There's just something fresh about spring, something innocent and worth treasuring.
I love the rain and the thundestorms, and the puddles and mud. I love the freshness of each new plant that appears, and the fierce growth each one displays at first. It is as if they are straining to get as close to the sky as possible, as quickly as possible, and that is how I feel, too--that in the spring, the sky is almost touchable, that the warmth is something you can feel the texture of, and that the feeling of anticipation is something you can almost taste.
Summer is never my favorite either! There is nothing better than a Spring rainstorm.
I like spring. Tolerate summer. Like Fall and can't stand winter.
There is only one season I don't like..... winter!
The rest I am cool with.
Lovely post

summer is not my favorite either unless in the NW where 75 is hot!!
I do think that most of us like Spring more than any other season. i personally could do with a little less winter, myself. It is the season that is most stubborn about leaving my area, and it is a very unwelcome guest by the time it does.
Spring is my favorite season for sure...Summer, I can do without the humidity. As for winter...I wish...we havent had a decent winter in years...I would love a little snow that might stick to the ground a little more than an hour or so.....we are getting bored with the mud angels.
Great post!
I love Springtime rain too...it makes for good sleeping weather.
Something sweet.
Mmm that does sound good. I think I like Autumn the best though, with the end of summer and not being too hot or too cold. Spring here involves alot of rainfall and thunder and I'm not too keen on that.
There's something to be said for each of the four seasons. I've lived in the tropics, and it's nice for a while. But it gets old, and you wish to be back where there's a change of seasons.
RYC: Yes, gardening is one of the joys of spring.
I love how you worded it! I look forward to seeing those first green stems too.
I too, have been dragging my feet on a homeschool yearbook (I think I'll make it a homeschool newsletter instead. I'm only doing one for a coop group for Kindergartners and 1st graders that I help with)
Spring can be stinky sometimes too but worth it for what comes next - summer.
I like Spring, the fresh smell in the air of the earth and the green, the scent of flowers (although most of those are still in the plant section at my favorite supermarket) and the belief that life is good and it is all fresh and clean again.
oops, I also posted a comment on the previous blog....
I heard someone ask a missionary to Africa what she missed most about SC and she said the change in seasons.
thanks for your blog, I enjoyed it.
yay for spring and fall! and boo at summer. i live in mn and it is still too hot for me in the summer. and this summer i'll be pregnant. sigh. :)
mmm...i can smell it now...not in real life yet of course, because its taking forever to get here, but from your description. it really is just like that! i feel like a child waiting for Christmas!
I used to love playing in the mud puddles and dancing in the rain. Now I'm old enough to have to do all the spring chores...LOL Puts a wee bit of a damper on things. Fall is my favorite season.
RYC: Thank you. HUGS!!!
What can I add to that...? I completely agree. It's as if winter is designedly long, grey and dreadful (especially here in southeastern Michigan...it's interminable, and with either no snow, or awful brown-gray smudges of snow, mixed with "grass" of the same color, and steely skies without hints of a sun) just so that, as things begin to break, hope and anticipation are the only logical responses....yeeeehah!
