Dreams, goals, and spiders
Had an interesting dream last night, very puzzling and symbolic. I don't think I've had such a symbolic dream since the bone-woman. There was a woman who would imbue others with a... I don't even know what to call it. The people she gave this thing to would strip naked and have patterns appear on their skin, lines and circles like the circuit of planets and rainbow rain drop ripples which responded to touch but also foretold the future. All of the people who received this gift would die within a short amount of time, but for all that, they sought out the woman and asked to be given this "power." Once they received it, they were exultant with the belief that they were part of something greater than themselves. They didn't mind that they would die as soon as she took the power back. She would read the future on their skin.
The woman who gave this power to others gave it at the direction of these beings who had somehow taken the power to be the actual conduit from her, and given her instead only the ability to share it with others. They told her when to give it, but not who to give it to. She had to plot to get her power back as her own, instead of giving it to others and killing them when she removed it. With each person she gave it to, she read who was most like herself, and each time she bestowed the favor of her power on others, it became more attuned to her through them. So that with the last person she took her power back from, she became imbued with her own power, immortal and free from those who had oppressed her, because they could not take it from her again.
Lord_Wu did a really good job with the Writer's Choice Featured Question 3d. In fact, he's inspired me to give it a shot, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
I also plan to go to the college tomorrow and see about getting into classes come fall, since no one ever called me back. Jerks. I hope it's not too late to apply for financial aid for the fall semester. I refuse to take out loans. I know too many people still paying off their college loans with nothing to show for it. If I didn't feel completely out of my depth when it comes to business, I wouldn't even consider going back to school. I mean, it's not that I even like money, but I acknowledge that money is a necessary evil in pursuit of my goal of owning my own business, and to ensure that the business is profitable and taken seriously by banks and govermental bestowers of businesswoman type grants, I feel I have to take this step. Apparently, the universe is going to make me work for it.
I encountered three different spiders, no four, at work and at home in the last few days. One on Monday at work which I set outside using my papers, one itty bitty jumper on my car door today when I got out of work, a huge albino one on the toilet when I got home, and one chunky black speedy jumper on the backdoor step when I let the albino spider out. I'd say they were all wolf spiders, but I can't figure out what they're trying to tell me, unless it's just that they approve of me starting my webnovel. Spiders do oversee the spinning of tales.
Spiders are one of my spirit animals. At the moment, I'd say they're the most active. It used to be that snakes were my main animals and I'd dream about them all the time. Then it was ravens in the waking world and dreams. But while I still see ravens just about every day, the spiders seem to have something to say lately. Betcha I dream about them too in the near future. In my dreams, I usually see whole black swarms of mini-spiders. They rarely do me any harm, but it sure is creepy to see that many spiders, even in a dream.April 7th
Thargelia was a celebration held by the ancient Greeks and Ionians in honor of Apollo on the isle of Delos, his birth place.

sounds like you dreamed of aliens. i get that the symbols probably looked like crop circles patterns? i don't know that's what i'm envisioning. perhaps the power originated from alien intelligence and the symbols have something to do with it too?
this past week i've seen 2 different poisonous snakes in the same place outside. one was killed someone ran over it but this mornings was the same type and i think alive. it was sunning himself in the road probably the same way the other died. i didn't get close enough to see if it was still alive. it didn't look damaged from a few feet away and i had two bouncing energetic dogs with me so we went the other way. they had diamonds on their backs. dad saw the other one and said it was poisonous.
we also have spiders everywhere. as well as webs... love the webs don't much like the spiders cause i don't know which are brown recluses and black widows so i'm weary to help any out of the house. i admit i squish them if they come inside just to be careful that i don't get bit.
Interesting dream. You should go with it to some measure and find out the rest of the story. It is the season for the GrandMother Spider spirit, and so I have no doubt of their presence. They, too, have their story.
Blessings~
Good luck with trying to get classes set up!
That's an interesting dream. I like the ending.
I wonder what was so great about the ritual, though, that so many people allowed her to perform it.
I don't enjoy lucid dreams myself. My own tend toward being trapped, bad neighborhood in a city, a former job, Many involve my ability to fly. I've never mastered flight in dreams although I always try. Enjoyed your post

@arminus9 - You can control your dreams, if they're actually lucid. If you're trapped, perhaps you can imagine your situation is paper, and rip a hole in the box, or something similar.
@Lord_Wu - Mine go beyond that to the point of physical participation. An example would be two weeks ago when I watched myself swinging out in a dream. When I awoke I had damaged my left hand to the point that I missed work. I do not however feel any pain until after I awake. I know I talk in my sleep, a truly heated conversation will awaken me and I seem to hear the tail end in a sort of seperate reality. I don't know any other way of explaining it. My ability to fly is the only thing that allows me to escape. You have no idea how badly I long to know peace and have the demons leave me alone.

I work for the entrepreneurship department at a university, and the students love it. They learn so much. Everybody in our business school makes great network connections and learns some hands-on stuff. Despite my disdain for business in general, this place is inspiring. I hope the college you're looking at has a strong program. Alternately, I know there are some local workshops put on by the libraries here and some of the local business incubators who give locals advice and even partner them up with mentors to aid them in pursuit of owning their own businesses. Keep working at it. You've got ze smarts and ze creativity. I look forward to seeing what you do.
@arminus9 - Hum, some of that's a bit odd. Sounds more like nightly experiences than dreams. You gone to see a doctor about that at all? (I'm not an advocate of overmedication or excessive medical attention, but that sounds like a potential neural imbalance/problem that might want some form of care or therapy.)
Who are your conversations with, btw? And what are they about? :P
That was without a doubt the most fascinating dream I've ever heard of...so deep and symbolic, and so amazing you remembered it all and what it stood for! Wow. Dreams like that reflect that you're very thoughtful and deep (as if your blog alone didn't say it already), so keep up the great posts and keep dreaming! Btw, that sounds like something you could right a great fiction about, if you're into professional writing. *nods* Not just flattery-the truth!
In terms of school, I think right timing when to go down is of essence. Just a suggestion. I've learned the hard way to push when it's time to chill and wait until the moment is right.
Your dream was interesting. The "power" sort of sounds like love. Giving love especially to those that are like the woman and being free from those that oppressed her. You seem like you got some interesting past lives.
Wow, I do the animals thing too. Ever read Animal Speak by Ted Andrews. Hawks are my main totem. And then there are all different animals that come and go. With crows, I always symbolize them as teaching me about my shadow - learning about things my ego may not necessarily want to learn ya know. Well that's an attitude I use to have, I sort of like learning about myself now, I'm quite humbled when I learn more about the shadow aspects of myself.
@arminus9 & @Lord_Wu I actually prefer non-lucid dreams myself. I'd rather see where it goes than direct it in a specific direction. Sometimes I appreciate my dreams more than tv. Since I love stories, it's almost as if my subconscious is telling me tales. Even the scary dreams are at least interesting. And since I'd like to me a professional writer someday (nods to Madoushi_Shoujo), I try to write down all my coherent dreams because I don't want to end up like the great rehasher of old stories... Stephen King. lol jaeyounglee - I went to the college today and talked to an adviser. He basically said that because I have experience working in a bookstore, that I probably don't need the credit courses and I could take non-credit which are mostly funded by local business and banks. Which means, I could probably get away with spending less money than I anticipated. Yay!
@harmony0stars - &Lord Wu No as far as seeing a doctor. I suffered two serious head injuries in my late teens which could account for most of the problems. My mother would often scream in her sleep; I just talk to whomever I meet but never recall the conversations. I've dreamed parts of books that I've been working on and usually use what I have dreamed. The exception would be a dream where I saw Peggy and heard her speaking to Josh. For a moment it sounded like a normal conversation but then she stepped back and I coud see she was actually speaking to Josh's headstone. I could see the date of his death, carved on the stone. Josh is Peggy's husband in my book. That I refused to let happen. He's one of my favorite characters; I couldn't kill him off.
@arminus9 - Well if you're writing scifi, you could always bring him back to life... or mystery/thriller, he could have faked his death for reasons of national security. lol Or Horror, he's become a vampire! heh
I came back and reread, wow my coherency after working 10 hrs is not very coherent. I didn't read it very well. Your dreams is sort of scary.
@harmony0stars -You might call what I write dark gothic mythology based fantasy. In my second book; The Apocalypse of Silence: I had Josh nearly die after the battle with a Lovecraftian type creature named the nexus. Anne barters with Death offering her love for mark/ lifthrasir in exchange for sparing Josh's life. [She enters the cabin as fog like the mists of quietus forming on a fresh horizon. The hand becomes as flesh before his eyes. She is beautiful; a jade-eyed pale queen whose demure appearance belies her dangerous intent. A black cat with a jeweled collar stands as always by her side.]
@arminus9 - Cool. Have you published? I collect Lovecraftian fiction.
@harmony0stars - I have 12 paperbacks, mostly old Beagle and Ballantine editions of Lovecraft plus two hardcover editions. The only rarity among the paperbacks would be FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH Lovecraft's poetry edition. Some of the paperbacks were damaged in an apartment flood.. If you'd like a free copy of Apocalypse drop a note to B Haynes, POBOX 1565, Rolla MO, 65402. I'm not H.P. but I do write weird fiction.
I have a collection of his poems, including the Fungi from Yuggoth, called the Ancient Track. It was $40 and hard to get, but worth it.
I may have to do that.... You know, you should never offer a bibliophile a free book. You'll never get rid of me now.
I was serious about the book. I self-publish, rarely advert and give away quite a few copies. It's something that I enjoy doing and connecting to that special reader who understands what i'm attempting makes it all worthwhile. I don't know if you've seen this but THE LIBRARY OF AMERICA through the NEH and Ford Foundation has issued a beautiful hardcover edition of Lovecraft with 22 tales. www.loa.org is the website. It's high quality acid free paper, just a magnificent looking edition.
For the hardcover edition of Lovecraft twenty dollars new under other buying options at amazon.com was the best price. I paid 35 for my copy.
i love how you can explain your dream like that. its awesome lol. p.s i took out some loans for college and i think i might regret it later. but hey someones gotta find a way to pay for college.
