One!

This weekend we enjoyed being with our family and celebrating Shea's first birthday. Shea is showing off how old he is in the above picture.

In memory of Grandpa Vern's birthday tradition, we buttered (or iced) Shea's nose.  Today - Oct. 7 - was grandpa's birthday. Shea has only three living grandfathers now. What a handsome group they are.

He is very blessed to have five living grandmothers - all of his great grandmas!
We were so glad that Mildred was granted a half day leave from the Carlisle nursing home. Doesn't she look great!? She will come home in a week.

Here is some more of the gang who came:

Shea had lots of good helpers with his gifts.
We appreciate all the diapers (400 in all), books, Elmo giggle chair, crib monitor, etc. But we mostly appreciated your love and presence!

Only a month until Alexa's big day!

Ledges

On Sunday we shared our annual trip to the Ledges. Fellowship took place between Pleasant Hill, Dean Avenue and Martensdale members. It was a fantastic time! I might mention we missed having Maddy, Rodney, Alena and Miles. They all went to Kansas City this weekend for the Gregory meeting. (Maddy had a superb time)

*We started the event by playing volleyball (a game of keep it up in a circle) and throwing footballs around (we're all too old and fragile to actually play a game).

* Afterward we had our hot dog/potluck feed (we were all starving since it'd been a 2 whole hours since we last ate at church!) This year we partied in style thanks to Junior Barlow. He brought coolers full of pop and an enormous grill.

*Then we hit the road to walk along the Ledges and get to the kid's favorite spot where cars pass by and soak them.

*We walked back to "camp" and enjoyed some roasted marshmallows (you're welcome, Sharon, for following you around all day and taking pictures of YOU!)

*I guess I got around to taking pictures of others...

*Now I pass the responsibility on to Dani to make a post about the beautiful scenery. I know she got some great shots (at the expense of my son getting in trouble with the DNR!) I didn't go "off road" and on to the trails this time. The only scenery picture I have to show is from Niki.

The only gift that is richer is that God gave us His Son as well...
AMAZING LOVE! HOW CAN IT BE!? THAT THOU, MY GOD, WOULD DIE FOR ME!
Because of HIM we have the common hope to spend eternity together.

Prayer request for Mildred

We would appreciate so much for everyone to keep Mildred in their prayers during the upcoming weeks. Since the first week of August she has had several falls. This last week she fell two times on Monday and again on Thursday. She spent the week in misery trying her best to get along but ended up Saturday evening in the hospital after a check-up. She has been at Mercy hospital ever since. On Wednesday she will be moved to the Carlisle Care Center (nursing home) where she will, prayerfully, regain strength. She has a broken collar bone, broken vertebra, and area at the bottom of her skull is also fractured. Through all of this physical pain she still praises God and gives Him the glory for a wonderful life. Let that help you count your blessings today and please remember her in your prayers - she is indeed precious to us and the mighty Lord!
