So yes! The scale!  Here's the one I bought and it is marvelously dandy because you can see if you are gaining muscle and losing fat. Took me about 20 minutes to figure out all the settings, but it's really cool. The thing I love is that it is so solid when standing on it. There's no way to "cheat" it! You'll get the same reading every time.

As far as not losing while only eating 1000 cals... I definitely think you should incorporate some weight bearing exercise... if you're doing the elliptical or bike those don't count according to my doc... but walking and running do... and of course weight lifting (which I hate... but plan to get back on it TODAY!). You need to be careful of losing muscle while dieting at this point... or it makes gaining oh so much more likely (as I have painfully discovered).

Don't give up yet! It could also be that you've gained muscle and don't realize it... especially if you weren't really working out much before!
