A new convert (?)

A friend came over for dinner yesterday. At one point, she needed to jot down a note, so reached for the nearest pen. It was, of course, a fountain pen. A bright yellow Lamy Safari to be precise. She was immediately taken with it. Had to try out the other Lamy I had with me as well. (Forgot about the Pelikano, as that was in another room.) She liked them both. She not only liked the way the pen wrote, but the styling, finding it “funky.” I tried to get her to take the Safari home with her, complete with a bunch of cartridges, but she wouldn’t. I explained I had more pens than I realistically needed (or could use at once) but she seemed to take that as all the more reason to not diminish the collection. She claimed she’ll go and buy one herself. I hope she does. At any rate, it was very gratifying to see such a positive – and genuine (she wasn’t just being polite) – reaction to the pen. It’s always nice when someone discovers what’s so nice about fountain pens, and especially if you somehow facilitated the discovery.
