Audio Accent Challenge
I don't get to speak English much at work here in Malaysia so my English has probably deteriorated with time, but anyways I stumbled upon Southernlass's accent challenge and decided to have a go...
A copy-paste of the list of words:
Syrup
Cement
Route
Rural
Town
Oil
Juror
Lafayette
HavanaTournament
Oregon
Water
Drawer
Idea
Wash
TerribleNine
Five
Park
Caramel
Car
Now
Tire
Thing
MOOOOOO!
This is the accent challenge for my blog of d00000000000m
And my boring voice:
Alright there you go. I should probably do a Rojak / Manglish / Singlish version since I speak that too,
but I'll stop at two accents....
EDIT: Suddenly I am thinking of doing it in a couple of other different voices/accents. Please tell me if you really want me to do so and I'll do it!
EDIT2: Firda and my sister requested some more so here goes. Two other voices I did included below.
This one is an attempt at a movie trailer narrator voice
This one is some kind of American accent I used once or twice for my puppet performances in the past
Shameless plug: Please star and/or recommend if you like the audios, I might do more audio stuff in the future if people like it!

Sounds cool man!
@Viktorious1 - Thanks! I try =)
oh my goodness. you DO sound damn american with the american accent challenge. and then you sound damn Malay!
hahaha. i can sound british best. and at times i tend to fall into the pinoy accent too. and then i can sound damn cheena. ok nvm me.
but that's cool. you sound very very american.
@maebemaebenot - Do I really? Thanks! I love doing accents... I have done some voice acting in the past... for several (comedic) shadow puppetry performances. I've done Gollum/Smeagol once, probably some made-up Western, and some type of noble British accent thingy for my characters. I'd say I sounded bad in all of them, but the performances being comedic, people didn't really care if I was spot on or not =)
I can try British but I'm not really good at it so I won't even try. I think you should try this Mae, it'd be interesting to hear you I believe. =)
@ihsankhairir - haha. i just tried reading them out loud. nah, i'd sound too silly.
@maebemaebenot - if you say so =) but I'd love to hear it even though I'm already familiar with Singlish. Or were your reading them out loud in British?
@ihsankhairir - yeah i was doing it with the normal way i speak daily (singlish) and then with my more pronounced british accent. haha. damn i sound stoopid. i think it's more the fact that i can't just do a single word, i would need to read a paragraph or at least a sentence for my accent to be noticeable.
@maebemaebenot - Yeah I actually struggled a bit, a sentence would definitely be more helpful. I actually had to record several test runs before I got both accents about right. It's hard with single words, the first few goes I went and treated the list as if it was one single sentence but I was reading them too fast, so in the next couple of goes I slowed things down a bit. But like you said, single words can't bring out our accents as sentences can, especially some choice expressions =)
You nailed the American Accent Audio Challenge! You should do it in a couple of other different accents. It'd be fun to hear you.
@Nurulkamilah - @Southeast_Beauty - I added two =)
hahahahhha...funny man you. i still prefer your american accent.
@maebemaebenot - yeah it's my most natural english accent apart from rojak/singlish/manglish. I was thinking of doing some others but I feel like too much is too much already, save some for later (much much later)
hahahaha..u'r good! i like the difference between the american slang & manglish..
i used to speak in an american accent after i got back from d states, but now mcm dh nk pupus je..too much manglish in it.
u'r just like my sis also, she can do all the american accent & all. hahaha..this is good!
weh.. ko ckp accent manglish ke ko ckp melayu. sirap.. simen.. LOL!
i dun think i'll ever manage to pickup OZ accent.. but zidni alwiz makes fun of my 'sure' since i say 'shore' instead of our typical sure.
wow! talented much?
=)
The last one was hilarious. Haven't met anyone who spoke in that accent in quite a while :P
@farahamizah - yeah I only speak american ever since i went to and came back from the states... before that... manglish la kan hehehe
@aie - I think your shore is actually the same as some british dialect somewhere =) OZ accent is hard to pick up!
@Najla08 - Glad you liked the last one. I don't practically use it at all except for performances and/or impressions =)
Hahahaha! THAT was funny! (I agree with you on the American #1 sounding similar to Canadian.....but #2? Sounds like Hick Bo from the Sticks! And yes, I have actually heard people talk like that "normally".....good job!)
haha! Your last two were really funny! All your accents were completely flawless. =)
Thanks for commenting on my site!
@PaulsShar - Thanks! I have never heard of Hick Bo, who is that?
@sigma_C_eq - Really? Thanks. Maybe I can pass off as an American now? haha
@japanika - Haha yeah! Malaysia is not called Bolehland for nothing (although it's more of a sarcasm).
You've been to Malaysia Maya?
