  • Random #103

    1. My Saturn ION's "check engine" light has been blinking on and off sporadically over the past week. Figures! The car has been paid off for only a month and now I'm going to have to start forking over money for repairs. I'm praying that a wire short is responsible for the light coming on, but knowing my luck, I doubt that I'll get off that easy.
    2. Pippin Took had to go to the vet yesterday for his distemper and rabies shots. Was totally surprised to learn that he weighs 15.5 lbs and not the 18 lbs. that he registers on my bathroom scale. I'm convinced that the vet's scale has to be off a bit because Pip definitely feels heavier than 15 lbs. Other than that, the visit went well. He's a healthy kitty.
    3. I'm still amazed that my boys, the Chicago Cubs, are the best team in MLB (statistically speaking). Of course, when I tuned into their game versus the Orioles yesterday, they were losing 11-3 . I don't want to be the voice of doom and gloom, but I'm just waiting for the bottom to drop out. It always has and always will. If you're not a Cubs fan, you won't understand.
    4. Do not, under any circumstances, waste your time or money on Mike Myers' new comedy The Love Guru. It was horribly miscast (Verne Troyer as a NHL coach? Jessica Alba as Maple Leafs team owner? Justin Timberlake as a French-Canadian goalie?) and painfully unfunny. I'll admit that I'm easily amused and quick to laughter, but I honestly don't remember laughing out loud one time. There were 6-7 other people in the theater with me and they were quiet as well. Sad. Mike Myers should stick with Shrek and Dr. Evil. And shame on Oscar winner Ben Kingsley for taking a film role that is so demeaning to Indian culture. You portrayed Mahatma Gandhi once, for pete's sake.

You just confirmed my suspicions about The Love Guru.  Thanks for the warning!

NOOOOOO! Awww man...you're a FLUBBIE fan!

Yes, I'm picking on you, even though I don't know you too well.  I actually used to be a Cubs fan...until I moved to Chicago.  While I was there I turned into a White Sox fan.  Now, if the Cubs are in the World Series, and they're not playing the Sox, I'll root for them with all of my heart.  But until then...yeah, I expect them to choke too.

    Have a fantastic weekend!

Thanks for the warning on the movie. We are going to see one tonight, but have not decided which one.

Sheesh must be a pretty big cat to weigh that much. Of course one I had was around 12 lbs and he didnt seem like he would weigh that much.

I've been telling Cub fans for the past few days...off the ledge. They've got a few injuries, and so they aren't playing .700 ball at the moment. The rest of the division is so brutal it won't matter.

    Remain calm, all is well.

    (1) I hope any car repairs you may have to pay aren't too extreme, WT. Hopefully, it's something minor.

    (2) I'm pleased  to hear that Pippin Took received a clean bill of health. We're having a scare right now with my mom's cat, Jersey, who is on her last legs. She was taken to the emergency vet clinic last night after suffering what may have been a stroke. We all thought she might have to be put down but she managed to survive the night. But we'll see how things go today - - she's lost so much weight over the past 6 months due to kidney failure. Please give Pippen Took a big hug for me on behalf of Jersey.

    (3) Regarding the Cubs, I think I can relate to your thoughts and lack of expectations of the team, given that my Leafs are essentially hockey's version of the Cubs. As a friend of mine would always say, the Leafs have the uncanny knack of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and I suppose the Cubs have had this same talent! ha ha!! But having said that, I hope the Cubs surprise you and go all the way this year (and since the Jays won't be anywhere near qualifying for the playoffs this season, I can relax in dividing my loyalties!) Go Cubs!!

    (4) I'm disappointed to hear that the Love Guru is so bad - - this was one movie I was really hoping would be entertaining, but oh well. I haven't seen the movie myself yet but if I ever do, it will probably be via a cheap DVD.
