  • DAY THREE WITHOUT DADDY

And so far, nothing awful, traumatic, disastrous, or even mildly uncomfortable has happened.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I caved to the hype of the new Vivanno smoothies from Starbucks this morning.  I got an email talking about how much protien was in them, etc, and I knew that of all days, today I would need protien.  I must say, I'm not that impressed.  I got the banana chocolate...it's not bad, but it's not all that great.  Figures.  I do still need the protien, though.  One class down, three more to go.  Speaking of, it's time to go to Pilates.  But, just to let you know, I'm not impressed with the banana chocolate vivanno smoothie.  Just another addition to my consumer report I started the other day, I suppose.  Time for pilates!

  • DAY TWO WITHOUT DADDY

Or the morning of the first FULL day, however you want to look at it, it hasn't started well.

We woke up about 5:30 SWEATING.  Em came into the room telling me that she had a dream about a hamster trying to bite her (random, yes, but such are dreams).  Last night I noticed it was warm, checked the thermostat and knew something was up.  It was set at about 74 (which generally keeps the house about 70-72), but it was reading that it was almost 80 degrees in the house.  NICE.  So I naively hoped that it was just because it had been 102 yesterday, full on humidity; you know, just summer in Texas.  But this morning blew a hole in that theory.

I'm thinking, had our landlord replaced the air / heater back in the winter like she SAID she was, we wouldn't have this problem.

And today, luckily (note the sarcasm), it's only going to b e 95 outside...with about 110% humidity (okay, only 74%).  Matt's in NY, I have classes all morning, and then another one tonight.  I can't sit home all day and wait for the a/c people.  I'm the only one around with a key (*ahem*, mom, you still have my key...), and KK is the only one around here that I would even think to ask if she could let the a/c people in, and I'm sure she has to work this morning.  And she has her sono appt this afternoon, so I don't know when she'll be around at all.

Another problem - I don't seem to have the landlord's phone number in my cell phone, Matt handles all of that.  And he's not here.  And I can't find the lease, which has the phone number on it.  I hope Matt wasn't planning on sleeping in.  Good thing NY is an hour ahead of us.  If I can't find the number soon, then I guess I'll call him.  I know he has it in his phone.  This is SO beyond annoying.  Why don't people fix things right the FIRST time??  We had SO many problems with the unit this winter and the a/c guy said it was an old unit and it needed to be replaced.  So yeah.  Let's have some "handyman" come out and install a new breaker.  Whatever.  I realize that it's not cheap to buy a new unit, but if you say that's what you are going to do, and if you have OTHER people depending on you to take care of things...especially other people who have two kids....

    UGH!

I'm tired.  I've been up since 5:15 and it's hot.  We've got all the fans going full blast.  Some of them seems as if they are about to spin right off of the ceiling.  So off I go to continue the hunt for the lease.  We have to leave in about an hour, so I need that number so I can call her on my way to the gym.  Fun times, fun times.

    ***EDIT***

As if that wasn't bad enough, not 20 minutes after posting this, I get Em up, start getting her ready to go and she tells me that HER tummy hurts.  And she starts gagging.  I look at her, and you can't see her lips.  Her face is completely void of color.  Poor girl.  So I put her back in bed and give her some 7-Up and a Zofran and start calling for subs.  No one answered their phone.  Figures.  No one returned messages.  So off we go, with a trash can in the car just in case.  She's fine, has been fine ever since.  She never threw up, though.  I finally talk to my landlord after my first class, she tells me she'll call and get a tech out ASAP.  She calls back during my second class to tell me, "They'll have someone out tomorrow, not before noon."  What the?????  Are you kidding me???  Nothing I can do, though...so as we leave the gym I talk to Matt, virtually in tears because of how the day has gone thus far...not to mention the dead furry critter with his head in a trap in the garage...but I'll get into that later.  I am beyond overwhelmed and exhausted.  So he tells me that he'll handle it, and I'm wondering what he can do from NY.  Then my mom calls and I go through it all again...again close to tears.  While I'm on the phone w/ her, KK calls.  Matt called her and she offered to let us stay there as long as we needed.  Okay, so that makes it a little better.  I've still got issues going through my head.  The rat, us having to leave at 7:30 in the morning for my class, my classes tomorrow night, when is the tech actually going to be there...etc.  So KK and I decide that mexican food will make it better, so we meet at Antonio's.  Me, Em, HK, Ethan, Kamdyn, and KK.  Whoa.  It could have been rough, but the kids were great, KK and I even got to visit, which was nice.  So from there we head to her house and I'm going to put HK down for her nap...we're getting out of the car when my phone rings.  It's the A/C people!

Dispatcher:  "Um, Yes, is this Jayme?"
    Me:  "Yes."
Disp:  "Hi, this is ____ from Frimyer services.  I was wondering if it would be okay if we sent a technician over today."
Me:  "Oh Praise Jesus YES!  I would love you forever if you did!"  (yes, I really said that)
Disp:  "Okay, I'll have Toby head your way.  He'll be there within 30 minutes.

And he was.  Still is, it's still not cooling, but he's working on it.  Which is a start.

He just came in and told me there is a motor that went out in the unit outside...he's taking it apart to see if he has the right one to replace it.  PLEASE PRAY THAT HE DOES!!!!

On to that dead furry critter previously mentioned.  We had some questionable (read: trashy) neighbors who recently moved.  They had good dogs, but that was about the only good things I could say about them.  The girls loved their black lab.  Well, apparently they had other "pets" besides their dogs, but the dogs were the only ones they took with them when they moved.  Since they've been gone, we've seen rats.  Icky gross beady-eyed-long-tailed rats.  Another reason is because it's so dry, and the "creek" (I always thought it was a drainage ditch, apparently I've thought wrong all this time) is dried up due to the lack of rain.  My mom also reasoned that these rats had been feasting upon the dog's food and water all this time, and now that they are gone, they have lost their quick and easy supply of food.  So they are looking any-and-everywhere they can.  Including our garage.  We don't have automatic garage doors, so there are gaping holes between the doors and the walls where they can get in.  We saw one a few weeks ago when Matt and I were in the garage.  It could be seen as comical, I suppose.  We had just gotten back from camp and we were in the garage.  Something smelled funny, I was telling him as much.  He was saying that it was the old fridge, the freezer got moldy when we put it outside b/c we didn't leave the door open.  He was telling me, "Jayme, that has to be it.  There's nothing else out here."  As if on cue, this CREATURE leaps up from behind some boxes, over some more boxes, and disappears.  All I saw was grey fur and a LONG tail.  ENOUGH FOR ME!  I was in the house FAST!  It was 8:30, but I didn't care.  I made Matt go to Home Depot to get rat traps.  None of those weinie mouse traps that don't do any good!  Bring home the big guns!  We got one within a few days, and we hadn't seen any since.  But of course, the first night he's gone, we get one....and he's still in the garage.  I ain't touching him.  Nuh-uh.  Not a chance.  So Matt also asked KK if Will could come "take care of it" when he got home.  Good thing.  Otherwise I'd have been going through the church directory trying to find someone to take care of it.  So, hopefully by the time we get home from the gym tonight, said dead furry critter will be gone.

It's still really hot.  I really really really hope he has the motor he needs....

    A BANG-UP START....

How's this for starting off with a bang? -- we were on our way to the gym tonight, we were about 10 minutes away when HK starts yelling she needs to potty...very urgently, but that's how she gets when she needs to poop.  we're still having issues with it being so hard for her to have a BM.  poor kid.  Anywho -- next thing I know, she's PUKING - EVERYWHERE.  Nasty, chunky, coming so fast that she can't breathe and I can't pull over puking.  So I finally exit and find a parking lot (no WAY was I dealing with that on the side of I-20!).  It took a full tub of wipies to get her and the carseat cleaned up just enough to turn around and come home and dump her in the tub.  She's been fine ever since.  I don't get it.  She didn't eat much dinner, but she's not complaining and she hasn't thrown up since.  She never said anything to begin with about her tummy.  Poor girl.  She woke me up at about 5:30 this morning gagging but she was fine all day long.  I gave her a Zofran then and we had no more problems.  I'm guessing the Zofran wore off.  She's been doing the "I POTTY!  I POTTY! thing again for about the last 10 minutes, making me nervous.  We run to the potty and nothing happens...I think she's confusing the tummy ache with having to poo.  While we were in there a second ago she started burping and making me nervous, so I busted out some more Zofran.  That should last us through the night.  That is, by far, the wonder drug.

So much for taking BodyStep and Flow tonight.  I'm just glad she seems to be okay now.  The carseat stuff is in the dryer, they are watching Backyardigans, and up next - an early bedtime for all.  She's worn out, as am I, and Em's dragging, too.  So we're going to take advantage of our no-youth night and go to bed early.  I think HK's little body needs it.  I think once I get the girls in bed and the carseat reassembled and back in the car, I'm going to shower and curl up and read my book.  And pray that HK doesn't start puking again.  Poor girl.  I hope she's okay!

  • Prayers and Products

We got Matt to the airport and now we're home, HK's napping and Em is watching her shows in my bed.  He should be either boarding or sitting on the plane waiting to take off about now, his plane departs at 1:21.  Please pray for him.  I just have this unsettled feeling.  I'm sure it's just because this is the first time we've been here without him, but still.  The girls are beside themselves knowing that Daddy won't be home until Saturday night, which makes it harder.  There have been lots of tears in the past 24 hours, and I'm confident that there are more to come.  It should make for an interesting four days.  We can do it, though, right?  Right.  Just keep praying for us and for safe travel for Matt and his family.

    Consumer report:

    Chutes and Ladders
Seriously.  Could this board be ANY busier?  We got it the other day and Em and I have been playing the mess out of it, but man.  There is so much crap on the board that you can hardly see the spaces, which makes it hard to see where to go.  Even for my genius four-year-old.  Was the original board this bad?  I don't remember it being this full of big fat slides and kids with HUGE noggins.  Just takes up a lot of space on the squares.  We're getting it though.  And most of the time, it's fun.

Seven and up my ear.  Em's LOVING this game, and she's even coming to understand that you are not only trying to get four of you own tiles in line, but you have to keep Mommy from getting four in a row, too.  Adds a little something to it, huh?  Like I said before, she's a genius.  :)

I was out of my cleanser and not wanting to have to deal with the hassle of contacting my MK lady and setting up a time to get it, so while I was in the store buying my ID Bare Minerals foundation, I saw this stuff - it's the RareMinerals™ Renew & Reveal Facial Cleanser, and it's GREAT!  I love it.  It makes my face feel so soft, and it even has a glow to it.  Great stuff.  I'm digging it.

HEB / Central Market's Read-Fresh-Go veggie packages.  I bought a tri-blend bell pepper one the other day and it was great!  Actually, I didn't buy it, they had an in-store coupon to get a free ready-fresh-go veggie with the purchase of a CM salad.  So I added it to the salad, and let me tell ya.  Good stuff.  I'm a fan.  Definitely will be back to buy more.  Especially since my salad is just about gone.  I wish we had an HEB in Burleson.  Good thing there is one near the gym in Cleburne!

I think that's all I got for now...at time to go clean house while the girls are tucked away quietly!

    Amazing Grace

It was a busy, busy weekend.  Not only was there the news of Matt's grandma and him having to rush to get a plane ticket, he was on call all weekend.  It seemed like everytime we got a chance to sit and relax, either his phone would ring or it was time to walk out the door for something else.  We did manage to have a nice night at Uncle Julio's with some friends on Saturday, though, and man, those fajitas were worth it!  We went with a guy Matt works with, his wife, their two kids, and of course Em and HK.  By the time we waited an hour for a table, got our food and ate, it was past 8:30 when we left...so we just headed home to call it a night.  But it was nice to go out with other people for a change...we've been trying to get together with them for a long time now, it just never works out.  There's even talk of heading to the lake with them the first weekend in August.  Oh yeah.  That sounds NICE.  Sunday was church, and then Matt and I watched a pretty good movie...Amazing Grace.  I'd never heard of it, but it was good.  Go HERE if you're interested in seeing what it's about.  But it was good.  Then it was back to the church to meet with a guy about the worship leader position...then home again.  Matt had a really bad headache so he went to bed for a while.  I fed the girls and got them bathed and ready for bed...man, our weekend was nuts.

Today we went to the library to return / check out more books.  I asked about the summer reading wrap-up party this weekend.  I have to teach at 9:40 and the party starts at 10:30 so we won't make it in time.  I wanted to know about getting the "prizes" for the girls....little did I know we could go ahead and get them today.  We got BOO-KOO coupons for lots of restaurants, free bowling passes, free admission to the Cowgirl Museum, which I hear the girls will REALLY love...AND free circus tickets.  Those bad boys are $25-30 bucks EACH....so now we have to find two more tickets for Matt and I so we can TAKE the girls.  haha.  But I'm telling ya, these girls racked up with the rewards for all the reading we've done.  I'm talking close to 75 books each.  Sure, some of the books were the same for both girls, but there were nights when one got one book and the other wanted a different story.  So there was LOTS of reading in our house this summer.  Both girls LOVE to read, HK doesn't sit still quite as long as Emma, though.  Sure, she's younger, but even when Em was HK's age, she would just sit and listen to you read to her.  They both love to just sit and "read" on their own, too.  So this has been a fun thing for them.  Em loved to see all the books listed on her sheets of paper.  She's pretty proud of it.

Matt's parents left early this morning to drive to NY, Matt's flight is at 1-something tomorrow afternoon, and his brother and sister are also flying to NY tomorrow, I believe.  Please continue to pray for his family.  I wish I could be there, but I understand that it's just not possible.  So the girls and I will just stay busy here for a while.   It will be odd.  I think this is only the second time Matt has ever been gone and we've been home alone.  There was once, when I was pregnant with HK and he went to Virginia to his parents to bring home our car...so this will be my first go at it alone with BOTH girls.  We've been gone and HIM home alone, but never the other way around.  Good thing we'll be busy!  We don't have much down time after today.  Tomorrow we take him to the airport and then after naps, we get up and go to the gym so I can take a BodyStep and a BodyFlow class (we're not having youth and since I'm not able to do my own classes tomorrow, I'm going to do these...I haven't been to a BodyFlow class in a LONG time, so I'm really looking forward to it).  Then Thursday we have my two classes in Cleburne that morning, then that evening I have my class at Huguley...then it's home for supper and baths and bedtime...up again at the crack of dawn (ok, so I exaggerate a tad) to go back to Cleburne to sub BodyStep at 8:30, then pilates at Huguley at 11, and then the girls are going to hang out with Miss KayKay while I go to the BodyPump and BodyStep launches at Ridgmar...not to teach, just to take and be a presence....they like to have as many instructors there as possible.  Then Saturday we get up at not-quite-the-crack-of-dawn and go BACK to Cleburne for BodyStep at 9:40.  I'm thinking I may take advantage of one of these classes and set up my video camera and attempt to tape again.  We'll see.  And then Matt flies in LATE Saturday night, so the girls will be cozy in their jammies while we drive to the airport for his plane to land at 11 pm.

Like I said - not much downtime while Matt's gone.

I think I'll reward the girls somehow on Saturday for being such troopers while Daddy's been gone.  Maybe we'll use one of the many coupons we got today....I must peruse through them to see what works best.

I started out thinking I didn't have much to say...obviously I was wrong about that!!
