Has anyone ever heard of the Kingston Trio? I think I might have by
accident once (I did survive six years in Tennessee and another two in
South Carolina), but I sure got to know them last Friday evening. You
see, my mother's employer happens to be a professional trumpet player
in the University of Mary Washington's orchestra down in Old Town
Fredericksburg, and last Friday he graciously shelled out $35/piece for
tickets so that my mother, sister, and I could come on down and hear
his orchestra perform.

Only, it wasn't just the UMW orchestra
performing that night--no sir! After playing three or four songs,
those good ol' guys and gals turned the stage over to some mighty fine
a-pickin' and a-playin' by none other than the Kingston Trio,
themselves!

Now, I understand some people have a sentimental feeling
attached to old white men singing songs about "hollars" and slow-moving
trains with their banjos and hair-sprayed, evenly-parted doos, but I
confess that I was less than moved. A fine performance it was,
although I confess I prefer Linkin Park. Nonetheless, it was a very
enjoyable evening in the Old Town, and one for which I am very thankful
Mr. Snuffer was willing to pay for. Do enjoy the pics below, and
please bare in mind that if the Southern Baptists get their way, this
is what we can expect in heaven...at least for the first thousand
years. Maybe we should learn to live with it now.

We had excellent seats...

A somber mood swept the crowd as the orchestra performed a patriotic medley prepared for their up-coming tour of London and Paris next month.

It doesn't get much somber than this, baby...or maybe I just need to replace the bulb in my flash?
By the way, I'd love to show some pics of the Kingston boys performing on stage, but just as I began to take said photos, I was informed by a secret Kingston plant (I have no doubt), that their contract stipulated no photography. Well, crap.
