An Announcement :)

Ok....we're NOT preggy :P

alrighty...got that out of the way :P

Jenny and I have formally signed our contracts to begin serving at Granville Chapel in Vancouver, BC (www.granvillechapel.com) starting September 1.   I will be taking a full time associate pastor of discipleship & worship role in the church and Jenny a part time prayer ministry position.

wow...we're staying in Vancouver...it's a bit nutty how all of this has panned out...but we're so thankful for God walking ahead of us in this...

So the short story of it...

You will know if you've entered your senior year in high school/college or beyond the feeling of not knowing what's next.  For the last few years I've talked about this feeling as a big black hole at the end of 2007...I knew Urbana would happen in 2006 and marriage in 2007...then....poof ....what's next?

That "poof" feeling can be a bit unsettling...there was something comforting about knowing what the next three years of my life would be about when I came to Regent SIX years ago....haha...but with all the possibilities and no obvious pastoral positions available...it was scary heading into Jan 1 of 2008...people kept asking...what's next Josh...and I'd say...well we are going to cast the net and see what we catch...but we kept putting it off and off and more off...

And yes, God is in control...he's got a good plan for us...his will....blah blah...all true, but it did feel a bit lonely out there trying to sort it all out...just like when i started dating, or when i got engaged...there was this very "human" feeling about the whole choice...not as "crystal-clear-divine" as i had imagined.  The same here...God's "call" for us to go to Granville was never a sure thing...though I begin to look back on our choice and there are clear indicators of how God led...

divine appointments and well timed conversations...he opened hearts of leaders at Granville and other churches to give us a chance and encourage us to apply...friends and family that looked out for us and advocated for us to people who didn't know us at all...God's constant presence and comfort when Jenny and I would flip out...he's figured out the timing of it all so well and answered minuscule details...given us enough money to last this long...handled smooth work transitions...we can go on the trips we want and see the people we want to see...

God thank you for saying yes to us...and for caring about what we wanted...even though you didn't have to...thanks for dealing with us when we were super picky and honoring our peculiar requests along the way...

You were right when you whispered to my heart last year..."josh do you trust me...i'll find a good place for you both..."

we will continue to wait on you as we enter this new community...help us to love your church.

THREE FOR THREE!!

aaaaaahhhhh....

someone who finally responds to this Dobson-Obama situation in an intelligible way :)>

i'm sure Jim Wallis has his own hang ups...but at least written here...he makes a lot of sense.

wow...two in two days...

:P

ok this one is a bit more...umm....just a slight vent...

i just got finished listening to a person I grew up highly respecting and admiring...in fact i'm on record telling Wheaton that I wanted to study psychology/bible because i wanted to be like this man...

I just listened to James Dobson's radio broadcast about his views of both Barak Obama and John McCain...

And i can't believe how unintelligent and unthoughtfully they responded to Barak's speech and also to McCain...

It's a wonderful example to me of how specific agenda driven worldviews...in this case an almost fundamentalist Evangelical pro-life/family dispensational Republican take on reality...have a hard time hearing the other perspective.

I went to listen to him because...ok...i know i'm a bit different politically than he is now...but hey...i still respect the guy as thoughful and engaging...and boom...i listen to him and i'm really sad.

He takes excerpts of Barak's speech and 1.  completely misunderstands Barack's words and rhetoric...2.  responds with an unequally compelling and rather unthoughtful response twisting what he hears to then launch off on a tirade against not just Barack but Democrats and "those liberals"...

He claims that Barack deliberately twists and misuses the Bible when he was just being rhetorical...he then claims that Barack is misreading the Constitution when all Barack is saying is that public discourse on morality is not just a Christian enterprise...finally that Barack is slamming all preachers when again...he's just being rhetorical (meaning slightly sarcastic)...AGGGGHHHH!

I'd go through it bit by bit...but it would mean i'd have to listen to it again...and i'd rather not...(plus the cubs game is on :P)

i'd be interested if those of you who do still listen to him and are Republicans...went to hear that broadcast and responded to it...

it's really scary...cause like it or not...millions listen to this guy....they eat it up like it's from God's mouth...

the most frustrating thing these days is a lack of forums where the right and left INTELLIGIBLY and THOUGHTFULLY talk to each other publically...everything we get...CNN, Fox News...Bill O'Reilley, talk shows...even NPR...is all slants from one side or the other...both sides lobbing rhetoric and seemingly misrepresenting their enemies...constructing strawmen arguments and then proudly and simplisitically knocking them down...see how stupid those on the right are?  see how immoral the left is?  you listen to the debates and people just talk past each other...it's so annoying...if this is what is happening in Washington DC...no wonder nothing is getting done...

well we've managed to invade a few countries....sigh...

oh...btw...i've been reading this site recently...(now you'll see how "liberal" josh has become...haha...) and i commend it to you...www.naomiklein.org....read her book...it's disturbing...if even half that stuff is real...Lord have mercy on us...

sigh...
