| | It has been another lovely day here in Eugene. All week it has
been cool and crisp during the nights and sunny and mild during the
days. After a short run this morning, I had "lunch" with my
sister. I'll call it lunch because we went at noon, but we went
to our favorite breakfast place and I had french toast and home
fries. Today is the first day of three days of carb loading
leading up to my marathon on Saturday morning...though with my usual
diet, pretty much every day is carb loading for me. I emptied out
my e-mail inbox for the first time in a very, very long time.
That was one of my goals for today. There is one e-mail in
particular that to which my response has been especially tardy. I
also took andvantage of the sunny weather to rake leaves and mow my
lawn...hopefully the last mowing of the year. My mom is coming
down to visit tomorrow afternoon and will stay until Sunday. My
sister will be going to the hospital on Friday morning to get her
kidney stones blasted. She will be going under for the procedure,
but with just a mild dose of anesthesia. She asked me today if I
would go instead of her. I told her I would if she'd run the
marathon for me. Below is another postcard I got at the show in
Portland. It was sent from Leo to Mirtle in July, 1913 from
Coalinga, California. It shows a picture of Leo's house (in
Coalinga I assume) during a flood. He writes, "do you know this
place some water fore here...". I have a couple thousand old
photos of homes and this is the only one I've ever seen taken at
night. Now I'm off to the store to get Gatorade (for my marathon)
and toothpaste (for my teeth). Then I will settle in to watch the
debate along with some chips and salsa.
