| | Just a few Bush/Cheney/war-related observations tonight. My
friend Karen has been particularly upset by both Bush's and Cheney's
assertions that we are much better fighting them (whoever "them" is)
over there than here on our soil. And she's upset that nobody in
the Kerry camp seems to have any problem with that statement. I
just heard today that civilian casualties in Iraq have just topped
100,000. The parents of American soldiers that are killed are
told that their child died in defense of our freedom. I don't
know what you could possibly say to the parent of an Iraqi child killed
in this war. I don't think you could convince them that their
child's death was justified becuase it resulted in America being a
safer place. I also don't understand how Bush can get away with
saying that Kerry is too far left of center without Kerry even
suggesting that Bush might be a bit too far right of center.
Maybe my perceptions are just way out of whack? Maybe "center" is
a lot further right to begin with than I thought? Bush has given up on
Oregon and is concentrating his efforts elsewhere... the polls are
showing a big enough lead for Kerry here that the republicans are
pretty much conceding defeat here. I've already mentally prepared
myself for four more years of Bush. I will be surprised and very
happy if Bush loses.
