| | Sunday in the park with my beloved was splendid...but boy is my butt
sore! We ended up riding bikes along the bike paths for about 15
miles and as is often the case after my very infrequent bike outings,
my bottom takes several days to recover from the ordeal. I am of
course very nervous about using the phone under any circumstances, but
didn't feel so bad about calling him since it was an invited
call. But I was still apprehensive because I had no idea of his
living situation...roommates, boyfriends, friends hanging out.
The thought of my voice on a speaker phone (or an answering machine)
with all his friends around snickering is somewhat terrifying. So
I waited to call when I was pretty sure at least he wasn't going to be
there...I knew he was going out for Sunday brunch with a friend.
So I called and relieved that he only mentioned his name on the
answering machine message...so I left my brief message. I busied
myself with laundry and cleaning while I waited for him to call back,
which he did a few hours later. He sounded really nervous on the
phone...a trait I find irresistable. At one point he was talking
about how empty his fridge was...and I said mine was too. He was
surprised by this because he was somehow under the impression that I
had a family of my own?? I guess that would kind of explain his
nervousness...and make it even more surprising that he seemed so
anxious to meet up with me (though he swears he had no intention of
being a homewrecker). It turns out that he has an extra bike, so
we agreed that I would meet him at his apartment at 5:00 and we would
go for a bike ride. He showed me all around his apartment and
then we headed out on his bikes. We spent the next several hours
riding our bikes along the bike trails (along the river) and
talking....talking to get to know somebody new like I haven't done in
15 years!! It was so wonderful...I can't even explain it.
When we were done on the bike baths, we rode over to my house and I
showed him around my place and we talked some more. It was close
to 9:00 and we were both getting hungary, so we topped the evening off
with a trip to one of my new favorite restaurants...a place called
whose name escapes me right now. I had what they called "Spanky's
bowl", which was simply a bowl of fresh corn and broccoli severed on a
bed of mashed potatoes with melted cheddar cheese. It was
yummy! We rode our bikes back to his place and hung out for
another half hour or so. Then we said our goodbyes. I don't
think I could have asked for a better evening! I don't know if
anything romantic will ever come of our relationship...but I do hope
we'll be friends for a long, long time. He is up visiting his
parents in Seattle right now. He is no longer working at the art
gallery and starts work at a florist on Friday. He's already
invited me to join him and a friend of his to a movie on Thursday night
and has asked if he could join me on some of my runs....so I don't
think this will be just a one-night stand friendship. He really
is one of the sweetest guys I've ever met. It was hot yesterday
and even hotter today...mid 90's I think. My indoor thermometer
says 75, but it feels warmer than that. A friend from work (the
one with whom I play tennis) helped me install my cieling fan a couple
weeks ago...right above my bed. It sure has been nice having it
the last few evenings. Work has continued to be busy and somewhat
stressful, but I'm coping with it well enough. It seems like
people either come in not needing their lights for six months...or
needing them yesterday. Oh well... time to see if I can find a
cool spot under the fan in my bed.
