| | I spent my first glorious night alone at home in well over a week tonight! My first night upon returning from Tillamook was spent unpacking and playing volleyball, my second night was spent playing volleyball and hosting my friend. After missing both buses back to Corvallis (where his parents live), I hosted my friend again Thursday night (and played volleyball). I got up two hours earlier than normal the next morning to drive him to the bus station...a small price to pay to have him out of my house. He is off his medication and not all that pleasant to be around. He is somewhat homeless right now after moving out of the room he has been renting in Eugene for the last few months. I happened to bump into him again a couple weeks ago and mentioned to him that I was heading to Tillamook if he wanted a ride to Corvallis. He took me up on my offer and I swung by his place (for the first time) to help him move out. My car was packed to the rafters with his stuff and fortunately his parents weren't around when I dropped him and his stuff off in their driveway. I don't know how welcome he was there. His plan was to travel. I told him he could stay at my house if his travels took him through Eugene. I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon. One thing I had forgotten about him when he is off his medications is his lack of basic social skills. There was not once a "please" or a "thank you" or a "may I" the whole time he was staying with him. He never asked me how my trip was...In fact I don't think he had a single conversation with me. He talked mostly to himself. The bathroom and kitchen were messes after he left. My frustration was mixed with sympathy. I feel bad for both him and his family. Last night was going to be my relaxing evening at home, but a guy I've known for many, many years stopped by last night and wanted to play tennis. At first I told him "no", but he begged (literally) and I finally agreed to meet him at the tennis courts an hour later. He is a kind of creepy gay man who used to hit on a lot of the young gay guys at these wednesday night discussion groups I used to go to near campus when I was a student. He had been by my house a few times before collecting money for his peace charity. I think he runs the charity himself and his asking for donations is pretty much just panhandling. His "peace work" I think consists of sending e-mails and letters to world leaders. I've run into him a few times at the tennis courts while playing tennis with my friend from work. He runs a gay tennis group that consist of him and usually another guy or two and they just happen to play at the same courts at the same time as my coworker and I play. Him stopping by was completely unexpected and as much as I was looking forward to relaxing at home, I really enjoyed the tennis and still had time to put up all my window blinds when I got home. The Tillamook trip was great. It was nice spending time with my mom and friend Karen. I also made all my needed sales calls and sold a lot of photos. I spent a few days (on and off) cleaning and organizing my mom's garage worked some at the bookstore. My mom and friend both insisted on paying me for my help so on the way back through Corvallis I went back to buy a cool little table I had spotted at the antique mall there on my way through a few days before: I think I'll be using it as a TV stand. It must have had some medical/dental use. It is all stainless steel and solidly built. Often I will see carts like this that are really cheap and wobbly and held together with nuts and bolts...this one is all welded together. I also arrived back in to Eugene to find that the blinds were in that I had ordered. I finally got them put in last night and am quite pleased with how they look:
This is my living room corner. The blinds have wide aluminum slats with wide black cloth tape. The dining room corner windows also got blinded as did my office/library and guest room. I'm thinking about drapes for my big office window. I have no Easter plans for tomorrow except for a running and a volleyball game in the evening. My running routine has been off track since leaving for Tillamook, but I finally ran again tonight after work and it felt surprisingly good. |
