What A Mess!

Here's what it looks like behind where my old sink was in the utility room:
mess
I got some paint today and put a coat on the top half of the concrete foundation wall. The bottom half shows where I knocked off the old plaster where it was loose. I don't think I'll patch it...I'll just paint it and hope for the best. It will be mostly covered by the utility sink I'll be putting in place of the old sink. Here's the utility sink all loaded in the back of my car:

I'll be taking it to a plumping place to get it all set up with new drains and faucets. Then they'll come plumb it in. The observant viewer will notice the lack of water source and drains behind where the sink was (and will be) in the first photo. Actually, you can just catch a glimpse of one of the cold water faucet in the top left of the photo--both the water supplies and the drain are to the left. The old sink had a hobbled together series of pipes and fittings that led to the drain. The new set up will be a bit closer to the drain and hopefully a little more straightforward. Here's the old sink:

You can't fully appreciate the tininess of the old sink, but it really is small and quite shallow. I also had lunch with my sister today...and played volleyball tonight. My foot is much better.

The old sink looks like it's more for a bathroom. The utility sink is much better suited for a utility room.

At my mother's house, there is a tiny bathroom (toiletroom in fact) on the first floor which has a hand-basin even smaller than your old sink. It's really just for washing hands.

Those big utility sinks can be very handy at times. You get to know this when you don't have one.

I stopped by the "plumping" place yesterday and was shocked by the $400 estimate to get new drains and faucets for my sink and get it installed! I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I guess I hadn't really given it much thought. That was most certainly a bathroom sink that was in my utility room, most likely recycled from somewhere by my homes thrifty old owner.
