| | I really had no plans for my day off and didn't do a whole lot, but still had a good day. I took my tub surround down to the studs at either end and also under the window:
The second photo shows the plumbing end of the tub. That wall is doubly thick to accommodate all the pipes and such. Those two compartments at the top actually open into the attic space above the utility room. He built all sort of funny little storage spaces up there--I've seen evidence of model railroad stuff up there, so he probably used it as a hobby room of sorts. And I found absolutely no signs of any moisture ever getting into the walls and certainly NO signs of the dry rot I was promised. Here's a close up of the corner that worried me the most before taking off the tile:
It is clean and as dry as can be. In other news, on monday I had FINALLY come to a decision on my utility sink faucet and gave the go ahead to my plumber to order it. Then last night I took one more look at the specification sheet and at my sink and realized that the spout would just barely reach the edge of the sink. The lady at the plumbing showroom had been showing me bar faucets, which is also pretty much all I had seen at the home centers. But those spouts tend to go up high and not so far out. I went back and talked to a different lady there and she seemed a little more knowledgeable and steered me towards one from the Chicago Faucet Company that is more of a commercial faucet. She had me talk to Mike who does more commercial stuff for them. The faucet and spout parts are sold separately and I think this is what I'll be getting:
And it is less expensive than what I was going to be getting. I also stopped by all of my favorite shops around Eugene today but didn't find anything to buy. |
