New Table and Chairs

I found this table and chair set on Craigslist last night:
newtulips
It is the tulip table I said I had been wanting when I found that other table a couple months ago. I found it just an hour or so after it had been listed. The guy selling it said he had be inundated with calls about it and that he had been offered more than he was asking. So I zipped down to the ATM and headed over to his apartment. It isn't in the "perfect" condition he had said it was in his listing, but still quite nice. The chairs are fiberglass and the bases are metal. The table top is a white laminate of some sort. Everything but the table top had been repainted. I think it is an earlier "knock off" of the expensive original. The "tulip" table and chairs were designed by Eero Saarinen in 1957. "The underside of typical chairs and tables makes a confusing, unrestful world," explained Saarinen. "I wanted to clear up the slum of legs."

Nope, it was previously featured in my November 27, 2005 blog...but from a different angle.

Oh. I don't remember seeing it. I like the modern style of everything.

I'm jealous, and sympathetic, that it's prolly Tulip knockoffs wot you got. But it's often the best anyone can hope for nowadays

Very nice set. And the third chair is indispensable. For the look at least. I think I mentioned once how I terribly regret not having bought 3 for my kitchen round table at the time. Now they don't make them any more and I have to use a chair of a different model. In my case, though, since that table is usually littered with not finished reading yet dailies, magazines and other paraphernalia, the third chair is absolutely essential as it makes a very handy place to push everything in when I have a guest dropping in for a meal. The problems start when I have two guests.

The set includes four chairs...the fourth is in my garage right now. I've always had a weakness for chairs and am afraid to count how many I actually have scattered throughout my house, attic, patio and garage...probably enough to seat a small army.
