| A Tribute to Fathers

| In January, I drove out to Newport News to help Mr. Lyle (my old boss
in Chicago) into his new house. While there, I met Ben Hallock (former
HQ video person), who I had heard a lot about. He invited me to visit
CBN on
Friday for the grand tour. Ben informed me that there was a
videographer position available and that I should apply. He then
arranged for me to meet Roger Rome, the dept. manager. I told Roger
that I did not have my demo reel finished but he encouraged me to put
in the application and send him my reel when I finished it. I went home
that evening and filled out the application on line. I got home 2 days
later and then spent the next 2 days putting together my demo reel
and sent it in. A week later, I got a phone call from the HR lady at
CBN and had a phone interview. That was my first real interview!! I
guess it went well because the next week I received a phone call from
Roger, and he scheduled a flight for me to go to CBN for an Interview.
This is now the third week of me looking into the possibility of a
job with CBN and I am flying out to VA Beach for one day. I arrived on
Thursday afternoon and ate lunch with Roger. I was a little nervous
over the whole thing because this was a big opportunity and something
that I had not attempted before, but the conversation was not centered
around the job during lunch. We talked about family, hobbies and other
various topics. The interview also included a lighting setup, which I
had to complete in under 30 minutes. The Thursday after my interview, I
received the long awaited phone call from CBN. Roger called me and said
that CBN would like to offer the the videographer position. I had
already been praying about it so I knew I would say yes, but I wanted
to be sure before I committed the next portion of my life. I called him
back that afternoon and said, "I would like to accept your offer".
Me, my U-Haul, Car carrier and my car Me driving the U-Haul through Pennsylvania
That was on the 14th and on the 27th I pulled out of the PC parking
lot at HQ (Oak Brook, IL) for the last time. I spent the next 3 days
traveling to Virginia Beach. The trip brought about many stories in
itself which I am not going to go into...I arrived in VA Beach on
Friday and got a hotel. On Saturday, I ate breakfast with Mr. Lyle and
Ben and then they helped me unload my U-Haul into my house. I stayed in
the hotel through Monday evening because my room was still getting
painted and carpeted. I began sleeping in my room on Tuesday. I am
renting a room from my cousin who lives 3 blocks from the beach. I have
moved my computer and hang up clothes into my room, but everything else
is either still in boxes or scattered on my floor.
My House View from my house to the beach (the hotel is on the beach)
I have now finished my first 2 weeks at CBN. I have enjoyed it so
far. The first week was a lot of training and reading manuals for
different pieces of equipment. I was able to go observe a couple local
shoots also. Week 2 I went on several more shoots and began running
audio for them. Sometimes things in the office can get very slow...this
is because we are a service department. If no one needs anything shot,
we don't have much to do, but then there are times when we have 22 hour
days and have to say no to things because everyone is off shooting
somewhere else. This is another reason why I love my job!!
Just one more reason to love my job...this is on my way to work!!!
For all of those who are wondering, my new shipping address is P.O.
Box 64125, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. My cell phone number is not
changing and I do not have a home phone. If you want to come visit me,
just give me a call to make sure I will be in town. I live only 3
blocks from the beach!! |
