| I Can Has Macintosh! After saving, scraping, and some generous donations from friends, I now have an exact duplicate of my Mac (via ebay)!
Yay!
*bounce* *bounce* *bounce*
... it's not really an exact duplicate -- this one has twice the RAM! Woo! | | |
| Requiem for a MacI just put in the new power supply and hit the power button.
Nothing. The machine is dead.
Digital photography, video editing, music composition... gone.
A new Mac costs around $2700.
Shit. | | |
| The Week of SuckAbout a week ago: So I'm doing my dorky computer stuff on my Mac. I go out for a cigarette. I come back in to find a powered-off computer and the HappyFun smell of burnt electronics.
The power supply's fan had died, causing it to overheat.
The downside to Macintosh computers: they use non-standard parts. I had just paid my cell phone and internet bills, leaving me with juuuuust barely enough money for food. I manage to find a friend willing to lend me $100 for the part! Yay! I put the cash in my wallet and order a new power supply from the one place in town that works on macs.
There's roughly a week's wait. I'm feverently hoping that the power supply didn't take any system components with it when it blew -- I can't afford a new mac.
Fast-forward to today. No power supply yet. Maybe in a day or two.
I go get coffee. Come back to the house. Fiddle around with my Linux install that had decided to go totally wonky.
It's up and running.
I decide to celebrate with something that contains a lot of sugar, so I grab my coat and my w....
Where the fuck is my wallet?
I look everywhere. I clean my room. I dig through every nook and cranny. I retrace my steps to the gas station I get my coffee at -- where I last used my wallet.
They don't have it. It's nowhere to be seen.
My food money? Gone. The $100 I borrowed for the power supply? Gone. ATM card? Gone.
Now I've got no money for a few days until my next paycheck -- the one I have to pay rent with. I have no functional Macintosh and no way to pay for the part I need to get it to work. This means no photography. No video editing. No music composition. No simulated-world-with-evolving-critters. Nothing.
I call and get my ATM card cancelled.
Now I sit here, just waiting for the next catastrophe to hit.
