LA - Here I Come!
I wish I could retire from weddingbee and focus all my energy on this blog (yes I'm serious!). One day soon I hope!
Anyway I haven't been to LA in awhile, my aunt is visiting from Korea, and it's my mom's birthday, so I'm headed to LA next week!
My appetite has been horrible lately, so I can't wait for some good ol' Korean home cooking! When it comes to food, I'm totally an LA girl at heart! They have the best Korean food of course, but also the best ethnic food around - from Mexican to Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, etc. New York just can't compete!
My parents always ask what I want to eat (for Korean parents, feeding = showing love). So I'm making a list - I only have 5 days, but I'm going to try my best to eat everything on this list!
- kong gooksoo
- mool nengmyun
- bibim nengmyun
- ojinguh bokkeum (no one makes it spicy enough for me except my mom!)
- ggotgae (crab) jjigae
- al (fish roe) jjigae (I love seafood and fish but never cook it myself)
- uni (I don't like that much sushi but I love uni!)
- soondubu
- chung gook jang (soy bean paste stew... only for the true ajummahs)
- paht bingsoo
- dweji kimchi jjigae (my favorite food - always taste better when someone else cooks it for you)
- jjajjangmyun/jjambbong
- my dad's roast beef
- my dad's homemade chicken soup
- dungeness crab
- carne asada tacos (you can't get good Mexican in New York)
- backyard bbq - steak, galbi, ribs, hot dogs, samgyupsal
What else would you add to this list?

oh my GOSH THAT SOUNDS GOOD. can you do a list of your favorite k-restaurants in LA? there are WAY too many to choose from, and i always end up going to the same ones. i swear if you put together a list, id check out every place on it :)
kal gook soo and jap chae...my mouth is watering!!
I would love some bibim nengmyun and samgyupsa! Mmmh, some dukkbuki would be nice too :]l

Go to Seoul Garden in K Town for the Ghengis Khan(jjingi sukkhan)!!!! It's korean style shabu shabu-so good!
"They have the best Korean food of course"
Of course!
And you know what goes great with jjajjangmyun? Some tang soo yuk!
I'm all hungry again...
all that sounds awesome. when i think of LA i think of all the Taiwanese food that's missing from the East Coast (...and the Korean...Mexican...Vietnamese...) i'm rooting for you to eat it all!
if you like nengmyuns, i would recommend going to narute (on harvard and wilshire) and getting their hanchi gooksoo (i get it minus the hanchi though because i think it's some kind of squid and i prefer not to eat it). it's this green colored noodle in a cold broth with lots of different vegetables and a tad spicy. VERY refreshing and tasty~
also, dwi gol mok has the best chicken wings (with the yangyum on the side) and corn cheese! so good. i would also add budaejjigae to the list. my stomach is growling...
damn right.
dude, chung gook jjang is hardcore. paht bing soo - the weather is perfect in LA for that :)
get some tacos at a taco truck!
ethnic food in LA is so awesome.
YES! LA korean food. I moved to Nor Cal about a year ago and I miss KTOWN food soooo bad too!! I'm heading down there in a few weeks and I'm already creating a list in my head too! hehehe. I want kimbob and soon deh!
OB Bear (7th and vermont - yelp it)spicy chicken wings( yang nyum dahk nal gee), tong dahk, and their... sea slug salad dish. It's actually pretty good.
and Ho-tukk at the Korean superkmarket on 6th and Western.
