  • WOW!

I just went for my 7 mile run-- went 7.5! Not that I ran the whole thing, but I did it in under 2 hours. If I just really push myself next weekend, I think I can do the 10K (6.2 M) in about an hour & a half. That is nothing to be ashamed of, but I already know that will be a fairly weak time. I'll take it.

I'm really proud of myself. 2 months into the new year, and I am surviving my 2008 goal. If I rock the half marathon in a decent amount of time (2.5 hours?) then I'm going to splurge on a new tattoo. I think I'll put some Hermes wings on my ankles in blue ink. I think that would be very cool, and it would identify me as a runner. That's not so important for anyone but me; I'll be forever identified as such and will feel obligated to keep it up. I think it's a fantastic idea for a tattoo. And it'd be a good excuse to go to Austin & to have my stars inked in. I could do it all in a weekend. It'd be fun!

In other news, I watched Across the Universe last night. I highly recommend it to Beatles fans. It's an incredibly emotional movie and it depicts the '60s pretty well, at least, I think so. Of course, I wasn't alive in the '60s, but in relation to other pop culture movies about the '60s I think Across the Universe is a superb reflection. My favorite scene is "Strawberry Fields"-- I love all the strawberries pinned to the wall. And there are BLUE MEANIES!!! I have a new favorite Beatles movie, I guess, right next to Yellow Submarine.

Tomorrow is our last actual inservice of the year, I'm looking forward to it. I'm glad to have an easy day, a last chance to sit and talk to friends from other schools. I know some people hate inservice, but I feel like this year's 6+1 Traits instruction has been really valuable compared to what we did last year. I'm ready to get past paragraphing and this last project and on to poetry. I know it's time for poetry when the days get longer and warmer, and the kids love it. As the average temperatures begin to sit more heavily in the 60-70 range, I start reading more poetry, finding new favorites to share with my students. I'm itching already.

Off to shower, eat, and grade some papers. Maybe I'll have a productive evening.
