My mantra for the last mile of the Cowtown Marathon 10K was, "I can do it! I can do it! I can do it!"
And I did! I finished the 10K at a personal best of 1:16:12. I'm so proud of myself! It felt so good to run that race. I finished the first mile at 12:06 (probably a little less than that actually; I was in the back of the group at the start line). The second mile brought some challenges-- a major hill and my legs were feeling stiff. I stopped to walk for every 2-3 minutes of running, but I kept going at 2-3 minute intervals. At the 3rd mile, I stopped to stretch & got water, and apparently that was all I needed! I hit my runner's high right before the 4th mile & kept going into the 5th mile pretty well. The last hill was brutal, but I ran it! I walked until I could hear people calling out the last turn-- then I saw the 6 mile marker-- and busted ass down to the finish line. It felt amazing! I had no idea racing was so much fun!
I'm going to run the Big D Half Marathon on April 6. I am EXCITED! As long as I don't have another sick spell, I bet I'll rock it. Hopefully in less than 2.5 hours. That's the next goal!
I'M A RUNNER!
