Today is officially the first day of marathon training! Woo! I ran 2 miles pretty solidly and I feel great! I also set up my fundraising website and received my first donation!
I'm running with
Team In Training, also popularly known as TNT. TNT has been around since 1988 to raise money for blood cancer research and to support families whose loved one is suffering from a blood cancer like leukemia, Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and myeloma. At the kick-off party on Sunday, we heard some pretty amazing stories--cancer survivors are incredible people of all ages. Fortunately, the survivor rate for blood cancers is steadily rising; however, it is certainly not 100%.
My personal motto for the next 6 months is, “One more step!” Although each step seems grueling to me, I can’t imagine how hard it must be to go through chemotherapy round after round, or have spinal tap after spinal tap, or feel like my home is a second home—because my first home is my hospital room. “One more step,” because each step is a little closer to the finish line. “One more step,” because each step is a little closer to a cure for blood cancers.

And for the first time ever, I'm going to ask you to please recommend my post. Thank you so much!
Added April 29: BTW... I ran like a CHAMP today! :)

Props. Happy Training!
@ReformedPatriot - Thank you! And thanks for the rec!
Hey, I was wondering if you'd be willing to check out my latest post. This is sort of a spam message, lol.
So cool, Darling. I'm recommending right now!
@SaadiaOnline - Thanks, Saadia!
Good luck. I recommended it.
That is a wonderful thing to do!
2miles! i'm only able to clear like 2km.
Running gets so tiring sometimes! Wish I could do it without losing my breath. Best of luck :)
Bravo! A noble cause. Rec now.
Super!
Best wishes on your training. What a great cause!
Good luck with the training, I'm excited for you! I've been
considering joining a marathon at some point, I think it'd be an
awesome experience. So again, good luck! :D
How does your team raise money? Do people pledge per mile or something? I'm trying to raise money for a water well in Africa. I'm trying to figure out how to do it. I want to do a 405 pound deadlift for max reps to raise money....any ideas?Thanks.
Way Cool! I'm impressed....
I've been going to S.F. lately. My cousin is in hospital there. He is a cancer survivor and is only 30 years old.... You have joined a worthy cause.
p.s. love the Modest Mouse quote at the top....
Good luck!
always running!
@maxximumforce - Wow! I think your cause is so noble! Some people pledge by mile; although many people just make a flat donation. The financial logistics aren't totally clear to me. 75% of the funds raised go strictly to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help fund research and support families who are facing financial difficulties due to their hospital bills, prescriptions, etc. The other 25% goes to support services for the runners-- marathon fees, hotels, travel expenses, water & sports drinks for trainings, etc. One idea I'm considering is to be a guest server at a restaurant, like IHOP, where I used to wait tables, & use the tips as donations & see if they will match 10% for a donation. Just one idea there, but there are thousands! I know people who have done art auctions, wine tastings, team garage sales-- be creative!
@ravensgift - Your cousin will be on my mind as I run! My best wishes go to your family.
I used to work the cancer floor, my first year out of nursing school, so I commend you for being willing to do something like this. I hope you're able to take that one more step.
@ccarothers - Thank you! I'm running hard!
The farthest I've ever run is 4 miles....I'm pretty sure that's a warm up to you.
