Yesterday my cell group from the small church I attend made my day verrrrrry special.

A little history. I am not good with yard work. One of the guys in my cell group needed some work a few years ago and took up mowing lawns and other various odd jobs until he could get something better. ( By the way, this guy's spirit and heart are so incredible, to know him is to love him.) He started doing my yards and I gave away my mower. What took me 2 hrs, took him less than an hour and he has all the trim done too.

But there were a couple of embarrassing, sore spots that I just ignored. One was a small jungle in the back left corner. There were trees left from the original landscaping. They were not cut down and they created a hard place to grow anything. For a few years I dumped the lawn clippings and leaves there. A few years later I bagged the leaves and mulch, but did not clean up that mess. I really did not know what to do with the area.

Yesterday morning Mac called and said we were having cell group at my house instead of the other home, but we were meeting outside. They knew I was getting ready for the singles stuff at my house so they were going to offer some help. I HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH!!! Max and son showed up a little after lunch and mowed the grass. Then they began raking and trimming. They attacked that jungle. They cleared it out. They trimmed the trees and pulled out weeds and made the place look pretty good. They did not stop there.

By that time, the other members of the cell group showed up and started working. Before long I had a wonderful eye pleasing area with azellia bushes and some cute flowers. Then we cleaned up the neighborhood leaf gathering spot in the right corner of the yard. That space had leaves up to my knees and was about 10ft x 10ft.

God has blessed me with this church family. One of the hard parts about being single is keeping up the yard and the house. Last year this same group came out fixed some damaged areas on my house. They saved me from having to contact contractors and taking out home loans. They also saved me a lot of worry.

That summer as a cell group and family, we went to each other's homes and did what we could to minister to their needs. This is the book of Acts in action. This is New Testament Christianity. You take care of your brothers and sisters. You reach out to each other with a love that is hard for outsiders to understand. Sometimes this love reaches out to the outsiders as well. And then this working love brings them into fellowship with the Savior.

I am humbled and rich and thankful all at the same time.

My eyes are so teary.  I don't think many people understand or stop to REALLY think.  My hubby had his stroke after we bought our house.  I so understand.  People say, you have two strong strappling boys...let them do it.  Their right.  I do.  Who is going to show them how?  Do they automatically know?  I have very willing boys that, bless their hearts, try very hard.  But water heaters, furnace, sump pumps, electrical stuff should not be the responsibility of the boys.  Carring out the trash, raking leaves, mowing lawns, washing dishes and laundry should be what the expectations of a 13 & 16 year old.  Not emptying a suction drain or changing dressings.  Whoops...got a little carried awy...

On Sunday we had 15 at services.  There were 5 (all male) children in Sunday School.  If I wanted to go to a larger congregation I could drive three hours to be with a group of about 100.  Yep, The light is pretty dim here.

So...Do you feel any older?

What an absolute wonderful gift!! It was great to clean out the old but to also plant new is fantastic.

This reminds me of the scriptures that says we are to remove the old(sins) from our life. But if we don't have new , positive blessings in their places the old will come back and take up residence. I am sure you will not allow rubish now where your flowers are planted.

My friend Jim and ellen are so excited to be coming your way. I do so hope this weekend is all and more than you hope for. Maybe you can tape the singing to enjoy later.

hugs

Awwww........ what a wonderful expression of God's love to you! I had tears in my eyes as I read! I remember when I had hip surgery with some complications and  was in the hospital for almost two months. One of my friends came and shaved my legs! Hee hee! Now that's LOVE! Your friends "shaved" your whole back yard. Now every time you look out there you will get this smile on your face and a joy in your heart because it will remind you that you are loved.
