  • Let's Hear It For Whiny Insurance Agents

Way back when I first got this house -- the place I've lived the longest, ever, more due to the white-elephant nature of the place and the local real estate market, but I digress -- a hitch in the buying process was homeowners insurance. The insurer would not cover the house unless several changes were made, including the addition of a banister on the attic stairs. Well, about ten minutes ago, I began to descend said stairs and slipped. Had the banister not been present, I would very likely have spilled from the top of the stairs to the bottom without passing down the intervening steps, about a ten voot plunge onto hard, irregular wood. This would have resulted in, at best, extreme pain, possibly some broken bones, and maybe even death, depending on the exact angle of the fall.

So, w00t for annoying insurance agents. And over on Earth-2, there's a dead Lizard at the bottom of the stairs. On Earth-3, I'm just paralyzed for life.  (And on Earth-614, the fear of dying activates my MR Node and I become a Nova with the ability to absorb kinetic energy and turn it into a force field and super-strength. Lucky bastard.)

One I slipped and fell down the concrete stairs of my highschool, grabbed the railing and swung the full force of my free fall smack into the railing.  I had a concussion and I wandered aimlessly in pain until I finally ambled towards a bathroom and took note of my forehead.  Then I cried a lot because no one had even noticed I had fallen (it was just before the lunch bell and I'd snuck out early to get in line first).  Then all puffy-eyed and whimper-ie I went to (at the time) the co-vice principal who cooed at me and got me an ice pack and set me on the couch to lay down until the nurse (of a sort) made sure I didn't have any major brain damage.  She was like a really cool aunt and a warm mother all wrapped in one.

When I heard she was now the Principal at the school I was overjoyed.  She really does embody a lot of what my school is all about.

Glad to hear you're not too broken!
