rocks & sticks

as riches

with permission

sipping

milk coffee

from a saucer

sizing up

the competition

& the surroundings

before declaring

yourself 

king or queen 

of the mountain

making mud pies

with hidden surprises

& the ease

of adopting

the persona

of any character

 desired

can you recollect

with feeling

your life

thru child's eyes

before

hearts

became victim

& trust

a major issue

before

they screamed

with

hellish authority

God Almighty

was a meanie

& angry at us

i have seen

how

in our advancement

thru the years

it can be

achieved again

but the lids

once our veil

of protection

become so very

 very thin

or non existent

colorfully

bloomed from

hardy stock

fading

& wilting

in the

unseasonable

unreasonable heat

scuffling

to survive

sucking monoxide

 blowing dust 

& hungry pests

so

i prayed for rain

it came

& the very thing

created to sustain

& nourish

shredded the

delicate 

paper thin

adornment

leaving them

in a near

unrecognizible

condition

the torrents

 nearly

beat them

to death

thank heaven

for a

strong root system

& the tenacity

to flower over
