Little Ethan seems to be a bit stuffy. I'm trying a humidifier - seems to be working.  This may be me being paranoid, but I checked his temp - under the arm.  It read 98.2, which I guess makes 99.2 because you have to add a degree.  I read in a book that normal under the arm temp ranges from 97.6 - 98.6.  So, does that mean he's normal?  This add one subtract one thing is crazy.  Why can't they just make something accurate that you don't have to stick up your butt?

*g* Thanks for the well wishes!

Sophie caught a cold almost immediately after I brought her home. I ran a humidifier (a cold water one, not a hot one) day and night for her.

As for temperatures -- I have a digital that I just popped in her mouth because I'm just terrible that way. It seems to me your wee one is okay, just stuffed up. Keep the humidifier going and if troubles persist, call your pediatrician. But call first, don't make an appointment. Oftentimes the nurse on duty can help you out too. :-)

Kya did the same thing... she caught a cold a few days after she came home.  :-(  It's so tough when they are this little...  If the humidifier doesn't work I always bring the baby into the bathroom and really get it steamy in there.  That clears her up so quickly.

It sounds like he's probably ok.  I usually use the underarm thermometer to get an idea of whether or not there is a fever... so I don't have to do a rectal temp if at all possible.  :-(  This is my second baby and that still scares me.  If the underarm temp is less than 99 I wouldn't worry.  My pediatrician still says add 1 for underarm and subtract 1 for rectal.  :-)

If you are at all worried go ahead and call the doctor's office.  The phone nurses can give you some ideas of what to look for.  Sometimes they just want you to bring the baby in... especially when they are this little.  Just calling can help you ease your peace of mind though!  :-)

Well, since I'm from Sweden I just going to tell you what we do sometimes ;-)

If Ethan feels warm, maybe he just got to much clothes on. Babys are very sencitive and the temp will rice as soon as he gets hot.

But if you feel insecure you should call the docters office. When you're not feeling good he's not eather..

Also over here we uses the best miracules, did I spell that right? :-) thing ever. The Breast milk. Did you know that it works on stuffy noses, sunburn, dry skin, small scratsches and so on on the baby and on yourself.

And for the thermometer:

Check this one out:

I use to on the whole family and the kids love it.

Test ear my son calls it :-)

I hope all is well!!
