Dr. Kimble
Late January I received a phone call from a guy that adopted my first foster kitten, Kevin had just found a dog on his doorstep at his new home in TN. The dog had major hair loss due to mange. He tried to take the dog to he no-kill shelters in his area, but none would take him. He later had to drop him off at a shlter where he would be euthanized after 3 days.
Kevin went back and adopted "Dr. Kimble" after a couple of days. He decided he was going to treat his mange and try to find him a good home. I knew he was coming back to IL to visit friends, and I asked Sally at the shelter if we could take the dog. Everything worked out and Kimble arrived at the Quincy Humane Society mid-February.
Kimble is such a great dog. He's a black and white hound/pointer mix (we guess) and is about 6 months old. He is very playful and EXTREMELY smart. He immediately picked up "sit" and "shake" and has been working with staff on clicker training. He is definitely one of the staff's favortes at the shelter.
Kimble was checked out by Dr. Kaiser last week and we found out he has entropian. The Wikipedia definiton is: Entropion is a medical condition in which the eyelids fold inward. It is very uncomfortable, as the eyelashes rub against the cornea constantly. Entropion is usually caused by genetic factors and may be congenital. Trachoma infection may cause scarring of the inner eyelid, which may cause entropion.
Today Kimble had surgery to correct the problem. He is now at my house to recover. He's in a great mood, but pretty sleepy. He finally got to eat a little supper after his long fasting period. Right now he's resting comfortably on my living room floor. Franklin, my 7 month old kitten who has disliked dogs since forever, has actually gotten accustomed to him fairly quickly. He's already tried chasing Kimble's tail. Shystee, my other cat that's about 4 years old, is not doing so great with him. She sits in the doorway and growls. Kimble doesn't care though. He just keeps checking things out and resting.
Hopefully I'll have time to upload some pictures later tonight.
