So you all know i'm crazy and like to take on tons of work...
Well, I'm taking on a couple new electives. The medical spanish class that I had initially been signed up for I'm now taking for credit (which means more work). I'm also doing a CPR instructor elective where I have to get CPR certified by the American heart association or Red cross and then my class will teach me constant chest compression instead of the traditional methedology for CPR (this new one is suppose to be much better since blood flow to the brain and heart no longer stops since you don't stop for air since the more important part of getting a person to come back is making sure the neuro tissue isn't damaged). Once I have all that training, I then have to teach 16 CPR classes (or 20 if I want to honor). This is a 3 credit class and the medical spanish one is 1. I also started meeting with my Optimal Aging mentor. She's the sweetest old lady. 84 years old and doesn't look it. No problems with Osteoporosis and she wants to set up her youngest grandson with my sis. Hee hee. If I do the Optimal Ageing program for all 4 years then I get 2 credits. Thus, all in all that means I will have earned 6 weeks off in my 4th year of medical school. Woohoo!!!

My 0-credit Community Medicine elective met for the 1st time today too. I'm the only 1st year student in the group, everyone else is 2nd. We discussed what areas of community medicine we want to focus on and I guess we're going to look at Prisons, homelessness and political advocacy. It should be interesting. I'm not really a very political perosn though so I'm not looking forward to that as much. I would have rather talked about gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender stuff but maybe we'll get to it anyways. That or talking about migrant workers (which we may also do). The dali lama is coming to speak next week so I may go to see him. I wish I could go see Sandra Day O'Conner speak too but that's at ASU so I can't make the trip in the middle of the week. Ah wells.
