Introducing Olga . . .

Our Russian Tortoise was delivered way sooner than I thought she would be. That's right, she. Meet Olga. Doesn't she look like an Olga?

Where have I been?

I have no idea! I guess there just hasn't been much exciting going on. Hmm. Sophie's into her third week of school now, and she's already had a sick day. She stayed home Monday with the same runny nose and sore throat that I had, and I had to make a five minute run to the Walgreens for some couch medicine, throat lozenges and chocolate Yoo-hoo. Frankly, I resent having to get showered and dressed when I'm sick just to be out in public for a few minutes. There should be a sick people only pharmacy where you're encouraged to shop in your jammies. Or some sort of home delivery system. But she went back to school the next day, and everybody's fine now, except for Aiden, who now has a snotty nose of epic proportions. I keep offering the boy kleenex, but he insists on wiping his nose on his blankie. That thing is getting a stealth-wash tonight.

Speaking of the boy, I know you're wondering how things are going on the potty front. Well, not much has changed. He's peeing on the big people toilet all the time now. He can pee on there like the day is long. AND, he sleeps all night with no diaper and no accidents. But, for whatever reason, he still won't poop unless he's in a diaper. So, he goes around diaper-less all day, until he has to poop. Then he brings me a diaper to put on him, he goes, then he takes it off and throws it away, and I wipe up his bottom. I think for being two and a half, he does pretty well. He'll get there eventually, so I'm not worried about it. He's also started counting already, so clearly he's a genius, and everybody knows geniuses can be quirky. See? This picture screams future Einstein:

We're also patiently awaiting the arrival of Aiden's Russian Tortoise that we ordered last week. It may get here next week, or possibly the week after. At first we we're going to get him a turtle, but after doing some research, I came to the conclusion that the Russian Tortoise is the easiest to feed and take care of. They're also supposed to be very hardy, which is a necessity in this house. We don't know if it's going to be a boy or a girl yet, but being that it will be Russian, we're, of course, considering traditional Russian names, like Boris or Natasha. :)

I've been watching some coverage of the DNC, which is very exciting, but what is with the weird hats and get-ups? If somebody knows, tell me. I'm so excited about Obama, I can't wait for November. I'm a little worried about all the people who have already gotten in trouble for planning to shoot him, when he hasn't even been elected yet. I hope the Secret Service stays on their toes, so to speak.

I stopped by my friend Christi's (latte_grande) house today to drop off some photo's, and I got some scrapbook freebies in return! Yay! Papers and ribbons and stuff that she says she'll never use because she is a "minimalist". Well, I am a "maximist" (not really a word), so bring it on! I love me some paraphenalia. I'll put some of my scrapbook pages I've been doing on here in a couple of days.

I've just read three good books in a row. I love when that happens. I read them so much faster when they don't suck. Anyway, I read Odd Hours by Dean Koontz, which was good, but seemed short and the ending was a little lacking, so I'm hoping that means he'll be coming out with a follow-up about what happens to Odd Thomas soon. The one after that was Oscar Season, which was a pretty good "inside Hollywood"-type whodunit. And the last, and best one was a new book, called Stalking Susan. I figured out who the killer was pretty early on, but still, well written, with some cool behind-the-scenes-at-a-newscast stuff. And this was only the author's first book! I can't wait for her next one.

I got a note home from school today that the second grade is already going on a field trip in a few weeks. They're going to the Ft. Wayne zoo. They should just take a stroll through our place. :) Although, I think Burt has flown the coop for the season. So no giant mutant goose to look at anymore. It's for the best though, my friend Jamie wouldn't get out of her car when Burt was here. Chicken. I'm sure we'll see him next year, we always do.
