  • Bridge by Hudsin Heidi Cooper

I was looking for this poem since yesterday morning...Thought I'd never see it again.  Anyway, I wrote it Summer 2004, when things were just plain awful.  It was the bit of advice I was aware of, but couldn't bring myself to listen to.  Now, I think I've finally heard myself speak.

    Bridge

    I'm standing at the start
    afraid of come what may
    I know I must continue
    or face this each day

    I'm standing one fourth in
    knowing I could turn back
    I know I must continue
or courage walk never be in tact

    I'm standing halfway through
    no turning back now
    I know I must continue
    I'll make it there somehow

    I'm almost to the end
too late to stop and run
    I know I must continue
or I'll miss out on the fun

    I'm standing at the end
    the bridge behind me falls
    I knew I could continue
or else I'd lose it all.
