The Chance To Strikeout

I'm not sure how many people read my posts, so I guess that's why I don't update much. With school being out though, I have a lot of free time on my mind to think and ponder the oddities of life. So since the marathon race I've lost one toe nail, and in the process of losing another toenail. I don't think I'll do the race again like that. So to pass the time whenever I'm in Brownwood, I'm working as a baseball umpire. People use sports analogies to eplain life. Here's one that I wanted to ask xangaland. Here it is:

Is it better to (a) go up to bat. Receive three well-thrown pitches. Swing every time. And miss every time. Only to get struck out?

or (b) allow the next batter to take your place and give it a try all the while you're thinking, 'I bet I could do if I had the chance'.

I'm not sure if how I answer this is indicative of a life philosophy. I'm still thinking and pondering this issue. I mean, is it better to know you gave it your best and it wasn't good enough than to never know for sure if you are good enough but to still have that chance in your mind?

I think we constantly desire a chance to prove ourselves. To see what we're made of. To see if we have what it takes.

In dating, is it any consolation to say "Well, at least he/she knows me, what I'm like, what I'm about, what I believe, and he/she rejected me." I guess the flip side to that coin is "If only he/she would give me a chance and get to see the real me, then he/she would like me." ...

I think most of us desire that chance. But do we take it. Or let it pass by?

If you have thoughts on this, let me know! I hope everyone is having a great summer!
