(and pigs) are the only animals that can sunburn, so what the poem
means is simply that humans "roast" in nature, not in envelopes
(houses). The word deer is used instead of humans to imply that the
poem is written to someone, dear Adrienne or perhaps dear mankind
(because of the word all).
