Hong Kong-born Princess Alexandra to divorce Prince Joachim of Denmark
CVK
As China Daily reports, a spokesman for the Danish royal family announced last week that Prince Joachim will seek a divorce from his Hong Kong-born wife, Princess Alexandra. The announcement marks the first time since 1846 that a member of Denmark's royal family, Europe's oldest ruling monarchy, has gotten a divorce.
Of mixed British, Chinese, and Austrian descent, Alexandra Christina Manley was born in Hong Kong. She attended school there and later studied abroad in Austria, Tokyo, and London. She worked as a stockbroker and then Associate Director of GT Management Asia Ltd., when she met Prince Joachim of Denmark during his brief period of employment in Hong Kong. They were married on November 18, 1995 in a lavish ceremony at the Chapel of Fredericksborg Castle in Denmark.
After the wedding, the enormously popular princess captured Danes’ hearts and admiration by giving a speech in fluent Danish. Apart from Danish, Alexandra is also fluent in English, Chinese and German. The couple have two sons, Prince Nikolai, 5, and Prince Felix, 2.
