• Champs and the 80s

  Uh, Champ... Who's Mikey, and why is he the Mid-Atlantic Champ?

  Yesterday's post was a combination of two inside jokes between me and my friend Mikey back in DC.

  Joke #1:  He was a little upset that he didn't get a shout-out like Kazzy and Jimmy did from last week's trip to DC.  So, I had to let it be known that he is awesome, too.

  Joke #2:  As you've probably noticed, I jokingly refer to myself as the "Champ."

  Is it really a joke, Champ?

  Okay, no.

  Anyway, Mikey's decided that he's a little version of me, and so, he's also a Champ.  I maintain, though, that one cannot refer to themselves as a "Little Champ."  We determined that, upon my departure from DC, he had become the Champ of DC and the surrounding area, and thus, we came up with the title of Mid-Atlantic Champ.

  And so, Mikey, the Mid-Atlantic Champ has now been given his due for being... well... him!

  Okay... What else is going on?  You have that disturbed/scared look about you.

  Well, I heard two very disturbing things on the radio this morning.

  1) New Kids on the Block have reformed and are going on tour.

  2) Beverly Hills 90210 is being recreated for the CW network.

  Oh, wow.  Are they going to dig up Reagan, too?

  No, they already did.  He's running as John McCain.  Except that he's lost a step or two.

  Bad joke, but I had to feed you that line.

  Thanks.

  So, you're disturbed about the resurgence of the 80's.  I get it.  But, c'mon.  You had to see it coming, Champ.  I mean, I Love the 80s has been on VH-1 for how long now?

  That's true.  Sigh...  It's just that... well... the 1980s were great years (right up until September 1988).  And I don't think I can recreate that magic.

  Well, no kidding.  You're 20 years older.  Besides, I remember the glasses you wore back then.  I wouldn't necessarily call those your halcyon years.

  Hey!  Those glasses were cool. back... wait... no, they weren't.  Okay, you're right.

  Besides, Champ.  You're having a blast.  In a way, you already are reliving the 1980s in the sense that you're having the time of your life, French diplomats notwithstanding.

  That's true.  Other than the French diplomat incident, I am kicking more @$$, raising more hell, having more fun, and loving every minute of it!

  Good.  Now, get to work, Champ.  You have some @$$ to kick, some hell to raise, and some fun to have. And if you see a French diplomat along the way... well...
