  • 'A Christian Home'

    Yesterday our song service at church was different.  Our pianist has flown the coup to Florida to visit a friend (see her site: http://xanga.com/singinglynnie).  My husband generally leads the song service.  Well, he started to ask one or two people that have always volunteered to come play if we needed a backup to come play for us, but then decided against it.  We had a song service yesterday without the piano!  And you know what?  It was nice!  It was totally different, but it was really good.  We had had a family up for supper (that's the evening meal, here in the South) the other night and their family sings a lot during their devotions, without music.  So, when this spark went off in Quincy's head, he asked that father to lead the singing Sunday since he was used to singing without music.  Well, it went very smoothly!  Quincy had had requests for 2 songs, one he barely knew, the other he had never heard.  This friend knew both and proceeded to lead them beautifully.  The whole service was just special. Quincy was called at the last minute to help out at the funeral home Sunday morning at 8:30....so instead of getting there to see how it went, he had to go to work.  Anyway,  I think we should try this more often.  It was really great hearing each other's voices blending together as they did!

    This was one of the songs requested...by my son.  It is a favorite of his and the words are just beautiful.  Wish I knew how to find/add music to it, but I'm  computer illiterate...but just read through the words:

    A Christian Home

    O give us homes built firm upon the Savior,
    Where Christ is Head and Counselor and Guide:
    Where every child is taught His love and favor
    And gives His heart to Christ, the crucified:
    How sweet to know that though his footsteps waver
    His faithful Lord is walking by his side!

    O give us homes with godly fathers, mothers,
    Who always place their hope and trust in Him;
    Whose tender patience turmoil never bothers,
    Whose calm and courage trouble cannot dim;
    A home where each finds joy in serving others,
    And love still shines, tho days be dark and grim.

    O Lord, our God, our homes are Thine forever!
    We trust to Thee their problems, toil, and care,
    Their bonds of love no enemy can sever
    If Thou art always Lord and Master there:
    Be Thou the center of our least endeavor-
    Be Thou our Guest, our hearts and homes to share.

    @Kristenmomof3 -

    Hi! Nice to "meet" you. I visited your site; you have 3 beautiful children! I enjoy accapella singing too, but I'm not much of a singer. I am more of a listener. Everyone around me is generally glad when I do more listening than singing! My husband and son both sing fairly well, but I just can't carry a tune. But I do love singing to the Lord! You would probably enjoy our church. We are very conservative. Only have a piano for music and do not use taped or canned music at all. It's just us and the piano! Usually easy on the ears....unless I join in too loudly.

    Thanks for the comments and I'm sure it is hard for you to imagine all the snow if your having 60-70*weather:)

     We had a strong wind all day,lots of drifting snow and closed roads some places. Its below 0 so it feels so good to be inside by the fire with the whole family home! I made a large pot of lentil soup,its one of our favorites and very healthy.

    If you want an idea of our weather check this out:)http://www.kcrg.com/

    @cowboy_christian - I think that is the tune we use too!  Not sure...I'm not really musically inclined, but I know I have hummed this in my head now since Sunday.  It is really a beautiful song.  Hope we start singing it more.

    @Lamentations3_21_24 -Good morning!  No, the sites you visited are not my children's.  We have 3 boys, 2 from Quincy's previous marriage, and Daniel who is still at home.  The middle son, Kevin, is the one who has given us our wonderful GRANDson!  I've posted pictures of him before on my site.  Daniel has his own site:  www.xanga.com/gmcdaniel85.  Daniel is in college at a local college and will graduate in May with a degree in political science.  The sites you visited,  I guess,  daughter80 and preacherboy80 ?,  are one of my best's friends' daughters' and her husband.  They had a baby in December.  He is a DOLL.  Went by to see him,...them!... yesterday.  Got to hold him for a good hour or so and he went to sleep.  I love it when they are small enough to snuggle and hold.

    Hope your day goes well and that your daughter recovers quickly.
