| | Heya family! As Shannon emailed a few weeks ago, we are getting into the spring semester, which means that convention is coming up! Woot! Now is the time to start thinking about your future within the organization. If you are passionate about the sisterhood, please think about running for district office.
The only requirements to being a district officer is to be an active member of your chapter, and be at least a sophomore. That's it! No money down, no huge resume, all you need is to care about Tau Beta Sigma!
The offices you can run for are: President Vice President for Membership Vice President for Special Projects Secretary/Treasurer
There are alot of misconceptions about time and money to hold these positions, which I would like to take down right now. While there is a minimal amount of money involved, you have a budget to allocate for travel and whatever costs you need. So if you plan your year out accordingly, you will use none of your own money!
Got four hours free a week? Then apply! It is true that some of the officer positions held in your own chapters probably take up more time than a D.O. positions. I spend roughly 4 hours a week at the most doing district stuff, and that's at our busiest time of year. It does not matter if you have held any positions within your chapter either; so do not let that get you down. While the district might look for a person with a few years experience as President, the other three positions, especially Sec/Treas, is perfect for that passionate brother/sister looking to start out in their life.
So what's the moral of this story? Apply! We are looking for good brothers and sisters like you to keep this district in the wonderful condition that it is in. For more information, you may go to http://www.kkytbs.org/mwd/docs and click on the "So you want to be a D.O" link, or go to the national website and find what office might be right for you. You may also email me as well, and I can send you my candidacy packet from last year, and help you in whatever you need help in. Good luck in the next few months, and I hope to hear from dozens of people soon.
LITB (and apply!), Leslie |
