Two more bodies found in the last week.

From cnn.com

Since December, bureaucratic red tape has blocked funding to find more bodies of missing residents hidden in the storm's wreckage. Money was made available last week, prompting renewed search and recovery efforts.

"We used state funds as long as we could until we ran out of money," Cataldie said. "Then [we] made the federal request, and that money just came in so we are doing what we can.

Is it just me or is that dead wrong????  Demand change or pray nothing like this hits where you live.

Thanks Jerri for this link to pictures that show the true scope of damage here.

I have become obsessed with finding pictures and stories from Katrina, I have made myself a nervous wreck over it. Thanks for linking that site, they certainly will make people think about our Mississippi coast more.

I can't believe it. I just read what you wrote to my daughter and the look of disbelief on her face . . . "Isn't it March?" I'm so sorry for what your fellow residents, our fellow Americans have to go through down there.

You're dead right but it's MORE than just red tape!! It is absolutely horrible and the saddest part is that other people all of this USA forget shortly after it has happened and not in the news any longer!! We ALL need to take off and take a course to learn how to go down there and help but I know that's not possible. But there are SOOOO MANY big companies that COULD help, if only "willing", too!! But they are too greedy and have already put THAT out of THEIR minds!! Just like so many of us have, too. (not me-but I know others have). If it doesn't happen to YOU...some people totally forget and move on and say-oh well, that's bad but at least it didn't happen to our state or to US~!! Very wrong and very sad!! Our country needs to have ONE BIG MEETING of people that REALLY CARE b/c people today are becoming more & more of "me" people instead of "we" people...of the USA, united by...etc-you get the picture!! It IS just flat wrong and horrible!! My heart and sympathy go out to everyone involved or effected by it. I WISH I  were in good enough help to take the course you can take to go be a volunteer in helping, but no way I can do that b/c it would kill me! I can't even be around anyone during the cold/flu season much less anything like what I'd be exposed to there. I'm soooo sorry, though!! God bless all there-cos w/o Him, I don't think others care much, it seems to have been proven....or at least sure not enough!!

So we're only looking for people if we're getting paid, huh.  Says something about our country, if people will only reach out if there is something in it for them.

The media likes to put a slant on things towards the negative side.  Just keep that in mind.  THings went wrong, sure.  And that shouldn't be forgotten.  But remember that not everything the press tells you is put out in context.  Also, keep in mind that when you say "the government" that it's not just the President.  Unfortunately bipartisan politics come into play and there are people who will block helpful bills or spending just to make the other party look bad.  I think more effort is going into trying to find out who screwed things up than fixing the damage.

On the same note, there's too much focus on New Orleans.  They had it bad, but that was indirectly caused by Katrina.  Katrina was only the last straw for their crappy levy system.  Their ultimate problem was that they didn't spend their money in the right areas to protect themselves from this eventuality.  You hear very little mention of the neighboring states who received much greater overall damage as a direct result of the hurricane.

And, finally, let's not forget that shortly after hurricane Rita ripped through Texas and did damage to Louisiana and lot of people lost homes there too.  This fact seems to have been forgotten by everyone (Except those living here).  Bush is proposing giving $150,000 to families losing homes from Katrina, minus any assistance they've already gotten from FEMA.  I'm wondering if he will also be taking care of those who lost homes from Rita.  I made it out lucky.  But there are plenty of people who would appreciate it if some eyes turned our way.
