Currently Reading
The Shadow of the Wind

Who knew I could love a book so much?  I know what Dana means about putting one in the freezer although I really feel like building a bonfire for this one.  How did I, a good little Southern girl, never read Gone with the Wind?  How did I never watch the movie?  How did I go 3 days shy (Yes, I'll be, dear God just kill me now, 32 on Sunday) of 32 years without knowing the Heaven of this book?  I feel like I fell into a love I've never known, was torn into small pieces and turned inside out.  I've never cried so much over a book.  I feel like crying now just thinking of it.  Can I be Margaret Mitchell when I grow up?  Please?  Is Scarlett worth reading?

YES, read Scarlett!  At first, it was weird for me to get into b/c you could feel the difference in authors.  But, it's a good read.  I'm so glad you've experienced GWTW.    Earlier this year I got to visit the house where MM wrote the book.  Awesomeness.

I enjoyed reading Scarlett.

You know, I started reading you last time this year when I realized we share the same birthday.

Ohhh I loved Gone With the Wind. Scarlett was very well written, I've read some other books by the author (Alexandria Ripley). She did a terrific job of keeping Margaret Mitchell's writing style, and I'll give you a little hint of where the book goes....Scarlett finds her Irish roots. Definitely read it!!

I was torn on if I liked Scarlett or not. I wanted to like it, but then again.... I just didn't click with me as the original did.
At least give it a try. You are already involved with the characters so why not stop.

I haven't read Scarlett yet. But Gone with the Wind is a good read. The movie is worth the hundred hours it takes to watch it. Just kidding, it really isn't that long.

Scarlett will help fill the "I wanna know what happened next!" void.  But I don't know if it is what MM would have done.  But the lady was picked to write the book from the MM estate.  It's not bad.

Also, GWTW the movie is alot different from the book in a couple of ways, but still excellent.

Scarlett was ok, but I didn't like it nearly as well as GWTW.  I think it's because Margaret Mitchell was a bit tragic herself, and wrote about Scarlett in the original from that view point.

OMG!!! I can't believe you've never seen and read GWTW!!! It is my top all time favorite movie, and I cry cry cry like a baby every time I watch/read it! Gaahhh! Ok so I didn't find out about it til I was 22 (oh so many years ago) But Scarlett is very worth reading! It really brings everything together, and Scarlett seems to be brought around full circle, and really seems to grow up in that book. You'll love it.

To me, Scarlett was like reading a GWTW-themed romance novel. It was still pretty good - just... not quite right, somehow. Which is not to say that you shouldn't read it.

Scarlett was a decent book, if you didn't think of it as a sequel to GWTW. It really seemed to me to be a sequel of the movie and not the book. Margaret Mitchell did write a sequel to GWTW, but legend has it that her husband (I think) burned it. I've read the book a lot (and will have to read it again soon) and when I was a kid I saw the movie every year when it came to the local theater. It was so long they ran it with an intermission during which we stocked up on popcorn and soda for the second half.

Your sentiments do my heart good.  The movie is an emotionally draining experience.  I watched it again just a few weeks ago with my sister and oldest son.  I was so excited for him to see it for the first time.  As the events unfolded, I thought over and over, "what does John think of this, and that?"  After an hour or so I turned around and looked at him -- he was sound asleep.  sigh.

Sorry I haven't been able to stop by in a while, but I just had to stop by now while I could though.

As a Southern lady myself, GWTW was one that was really emotional for me.  It is a classic and very heart touching and heart wrenching as well!  I've never been able to read the book though, but the movie was really something!

Hope you have a great weekend and SUPER BIRTHDAY, Tiff!  (((Love & Hugs)))

I rented this and watched it with the girls a while back and they both loved it. It's too long a book for them tackle evidently, although I think I read it the first time about age 11. That was the year I made it through Ghenghis Khan also, another long interesting one. I also TRIED to sit down and read the complete Shakespeare that summer I think. I was obviously going through my parents' bookshelf in sheer boredom. Found some good books though!

So glad to hear you're enjoying GWTW. You have inspired me to read it. I think I'll take it to the beach when we go at the end of June. Happy Birthday!

I have seen the movie Gone with the wind several times, (I own it on DVD), and I read Scarlett.

Loved the movie, didn't really care for the book, it confused me. But if you recommend it, I'll give The Shadow of the Wind a try.

Thanks so much for your comment, it meant an awful lot to me, yes parenting is tough. Thanks for reminding me it's not only me going through those things. :)

Gone With the Wind is on my list of books to read some day.  every one seems to rave about it here, so it must be worth the read.  :)  thanks for reminding me.  Maybe I'll pick it up this summer.
