i haven't blogged about selah's oral surgery yet because there are many large feelings wrapped up in how it went. first of all, the fact that she needed to have so much dental work done in the first place causes quite a bit of guilt. knowing my genetic background, bad teeth don't surprise me, but at the same time, i haven't been flossing and brushing with her like i should have. if we had been flossing and brushing, i would have figured we had done all we could have done-but we haven't. Noah on the other hand, has been well brushed and flossed, and still needs some fillings. So I'm not sure what all is going on there. Anyway, Selah did amazingly. She was scared, there were some tears the day before when we let her know what was happening the next day. But from then on, she handled it like a champ. She did wish she was an animal, not a person, so she wouldn't have to go to the dentist. She said it very matter of factly. When the dentist came to get her, I let him know her top tooth was loose. When he asked if he could just take it out, I said sure. Well, he came out two hours later and said he took out FIVE of her teeth, on top of her 4 little crowns. Four of them were just loose. I was speechless. One was abscessed, and needed to come out, but wow. I was pretty upset. They were baby teeth, and I knew they were a little bit loose, but I wasn't expecting to see my baby girl come out so toothless. And swollen. And bloody.

This is her a few hours after surgery. The Dilaudid did it's job. She never once complained of pain.

This is yesterday. She's herself again. Just looking different. Her gums are starting to look a lot more normal too.

My friend Marylynn and I had a random mayonnaise making party.

A moose almost stomped a dog yesterday. He charged it and ran away. It's been rainy. Sun, please come.

Aww, I would've been sad at the loss of that many teeth at once too! I'm glad she's doing well after that.

A moose chasing a dog? That's just something you don't see around here, well, ever! Deer in the road, or a possum, sure, but no moose. lol

I'm relieved to see your horrendous snowfall of last week is completely melted.  I was contemplating cashing in my ticket - just kidding!  Well, sort of.  I'm just not up for Anchorage with snow yet again.

I feel for your little one as having been oen who grew up in the dentist chair. I didn't have great DNA for my teeth as well. I spent years in orthodontics and had oral surgery three times during those years. Then I had to sit in the dentist chair and get a ton of fillings because of the damage the orthodontics did. Now that I'm in my thirties, I am back in the dentist chair nonstop getting those fillings either replaced or getting crowns because of the damage that my 20-year old fillings have caused. [sigh] It's a never ending cycle. My daughter, bless her heart, has been in orthodontics for one year and has undergone oral surgery once. They pulled her bicuspids that had roots as long as a quarter, I kid you not. Go get a quarter and hold it in your hand, it's amazing they can be that long. Yikes! Now we were just informed she will be undergoing oral surgery again to bring her cuspids into position to come down because they haven't emerged through the gum tissue as of yet. Meanwhile, I'm praying her teeth don't undergo the damage mine did from orthodontics and her little brother is another matter entirely. He is two years of age and refuses to let me put a toothbrush in his mouth no matter what we do. You can't pry his mouth open, he totally freaks out. So I pray over his teeth and tell God to please not let him have cavities or dental problems.

I remember being a kid and having a yank happy dentist pulling my baby teeth..
