  • Stars: "What's the big deal?"

How important are they, really? Many Xangans, including some I know, want stars very badly. A question I ask myself, while thinking about this, and many of you probably ask this too, "Why do you want starts on your posts, so badly? For popularity? To be a featured weblog?" While I ask this question, I also tend to think, "Wait. Maybe you don't want stars for the sake of having everybody read them, and getting thousands commenting obsessively. You want stars because you feel your writing deserves to be read, and it's good enough to be featured. It's good enough to make people want to continue reading your blog because they truly notice your writing skills, and how passionate you are about writing."

After asking these questions and discussing our thoughts, among ourselves - we come to two very different conclusions about stars. There are people who want them to be popular, and there are people who deserve them and want their work to be recognized. Now that our conclusions having been stated clearly, I'm wondering how many people belong to each conclusion, and their explanation for that conclusion (even though they may be self-explanitory). Maybe, it's just curiosity. Or maybe, it's something more. Who knows?

What I do know is that I've decided in this post, that I'm going to pick my own star (which is of course, way different than Xanga's definition of "stars," but this is my world here). This star is an incredible writer, very straightforward, and always gives 110% on her posts. She has a great talent that deserves to be recognized, one that truly deserves stars. I present to you my very first "Star," antisoccermom. Congratulations!
