The Golden Years: What's So Golden About It?
Come on, really? The Golden Years are referred to as wondrous years after retirement. You've went through the drama of high school, had some good years (and good debt!) while in college, met many good friends along the way and still managed to keep your family in tact. You might be married, divorced, widowed or even single. Though you've lost many loved ones through the years, you still have managed to do some good things. Such as paying off all of your student loans, credit card debts, and you've payed your house off - so now, it's all yours.
You seem to have taken care of everything in your life, and pretty well, in fact. So now, you're ready to set back and relax and enjoy your Golden Years. Time to sign up for Social Security and possibly for Disability, if you've undergone some unfortunate happenings in your lifetime. Ready to get on Medicare or Medicaid, or maybe the VA, and get the proper healthcare you need and deserve.
Now that you've gotten that straightened out, it seems that everything in your life is in good order. Except for the objective fact that many of your friends have already passed away, and those who are alive are struggling. Barely making it, feeling all alone with no one to help them. Most of your family has passed away, the others are nearly there. You're afraid that you are ending up like your friends, alone and helpless, struggling to make it by. You hope that you can make it another day, that you'll be able to survive.
After all of these years, each one you wished you were older, thinking these Golden Years would be the best of you whole life. Now you're older, now you're in the Golden Years, but what's so golden about it? There isn't any rose petals lying on your bed, or a master bathroom with a huge bath that you can soak in, or even something as simple as good health. My dear friend, there is nothing golden about the Golden Years - the only thing that's golden is your golden trimmed picture frame, that hangs above your couch.

I absolutely agree.
ditto. i enjoy retirement but now that the golden years are here, the orice of everything has gone so high i can't afford the golden part exceot for a few golden delishious apples.
I'm too young for retirement but of course I'm also thinking already about what will happen to me by then. So I venture into business and see it save up for my own "golden years." Hehe.
By the time I'm in my golden years there will be no more social security the way things are going now.
I couldn't agree with you more, it seems that there isn't much to look forward to growing older, anymore. I'm not sure that there ever really was, but certainly the golden has turned to rust, quickly.
This should be on the front page!!!
Absolutely.
