I woke up this morning at 4:35. Mack's alarm was going off in her room. I worried that it would wake the neighbors, so I jumped up to get it. As soon as I stood up (as it were), I realized our apartment hotter than a summer in hell. I wondered briefly if I was hearing the smoke alarm rather than an alarm clock, but I didn't smell smoke. I made it to Mack's room, but she wasn't in bed.
I found her asleep on the living room floor. She was sick yesterday (really sick, not pulling any "I don't want to go to school" stuff--she went to school and then called me, and the nurse verified that she looked awful), and I was worried that she was still sick. She said she decided to sleep on the living room floor (after everyone else was in bed) because it was cold in her room, so of course she cranked up the heater AS HIGH AS IT WOULD GO, which is roughly the temperature of the sun, or maybe even Arizona.
I decided to just stay up.
News of the weird: Mr. S bought a TiVo yesterday from costco.com and has now decided he doesn't want it. He doesn't even have it yet. And instead of just canceling the order, he said I could have it. Which makes me think he meant to buy it for me in the first place. He knows I've been wanting one for about as long as they've been out. He likes things like that--computers that run functions in your home, and we've talked about it several times, because we both love TV and I never seem to know when stuff is on.
I'm not cooking tonight. I didn't last night, either. We have all kinds of leftovers.
I don't know if I'm going to tennis class tonight. We'll see how the Sox are doing when the time comes.
There's a guy in my tennis class, let's call him Kevin, because that's what I call him, even though it's not even close to his actual name…he's a good player and we seem to click, so I think I might ask him if he wants to play mixed doubles with me in a tournament or two. He hits the ball well (and hard), but doesn't seem to have a lot of strategy going on. I don't hit as well as he does, but I've got strategy to burn. Even my strategy has strategy. So I think we might make a good combination, and that it would be fun. I need to find out if there are any tournaments coming up.
I'll have more later. I'm a little crazed right now--lack of sleep does that to me, not to mention having a lot to do. I thought of an idea for a novel last night. I want to work on my Mr. S material for NaNoWriMo, though, because it seems to have some momentum and I really want to try to get it in some format to send to agents next year. I might have a poll on this later, because I don't quite know what to do with all this--I have almost 100K workds on Mr. S, I think. Not all, or even most, usable words, though. And I know it's kind of cheating to use existing work for NaNoWriMo (even though there will be extensive rewriting), but if the goal is to finish a project, then this is what I need to do.

That would be fun to do a tournament. Hope that all works out.
Tivo has a monthly fee, but that's very cool.
Hope your kid feels better soon.
"because I don't quite know what to do with all this--I have almost 100K workds on Mr. S"
There are a couple of Xangan's who might be able to give you some suggestions as to how to proceed w/ possible publishing. I'm thinking a Bridget Jones Diary-type thing might work?
Tivo is cool. A free tivo is cooler yet.
You know how I feel about your Nov. project. It's not "cheating," for Pete's sake.
I might have to reneg on NanuNanu this time. Our business needs a lot of work and I have sworn to uphold my duties as resident ass-kicker. Lots of changes to come in our house, I think.
How inconsistent can a person be? One day he's treating you like crap, and the next day he's buying you expensive electronics. That man is nuts. (But -- even if just for a second -- I bet it kinda makes you feel like all the crap you put up with is worth it... no?)
Poor Mack! I hope she fels better soon. And Kevin? yes, definitely double date. giggle...
As far as the Tivo? Aw, how sweet! I guess you're going to have to take back one bad thing you thought about the old geezer butthead. But only until he pisses you off again. LOL
Man, just when I think my boss is a complete ass, I read your Xanga. Thanks for letting me know it can always be worse.
But hey, the TiVo thing, that rocks! My boss is the same way -- he's an ass one minute, then he sends me to Florida all-expense-paid for my honeymoon. *shrug*
Gosh, I read two or three of your entries and now I'm hooked. "Mr. S." cracks me up.
So you've got a new subscriber.
Have a great day!
