Thanks to all of you for car advice. I know it's usually more cost effective to buy used, but I think I can get a very, very good price on a new Honda, like very close to the dealer's actual cost (not invoice). The problem is figuring out what price to ask for. I have a really good connection and I can't talk too much about it, but it's worth it to me to look into it. If it's not much more than a late-model used car, I'll just go that route, I think. I have time to figure all this out, since my car will live to run another day (at least).
I had to take the bus to work this morning because I don't have my car back yet. It was a fiasco and I was 45 minutes late to work because I overslept and missed the first bus, so had to wait an hour for the next one. It takes one hour and 5 buses to travel the 5 miles to my office. I should have just ridden Mack's bike.
I left the book I'm reading in the trunk of my car so I had to start reading another one this morning on the bus, I'm not one of those people who has 10 books on the nightstand at any one time. I read them one at a time, because otherwise they vie fror my attention and one wins out anyway, and then the 2nd place book ends up on the nightstand for months (coughClintonBookcough).
My car was supposed to be finished at about 5:30 last night, which was the same time the game was starting. I was a little disappointed about missing the beginning of the game, but it was nothing I couldn't deal with. Better to miss the beginning than the end.
Speaking of the game, I really have nothing to add that hasn't been said. I've read some eloquent things about the Red Sox and the curse and all that, and there's nothing I can add other than I'm very happy.
Ms. S had planned to let me go early so I could see the beginning of the game, but I told him I didn't need to since I had to wait for my car anyway. He said to call the mechanic and tell him I wouldn't get the car until today, and then he would just give me a ride home.
Riding in a car with Mr. S at the wheel is just not my idea of a good time. He was all freaked out that he was going to miss the first pitch. He knows very little about baseball, so I found this puzzling, but he's been all fired up about the Red Sox ever since I told him I was a fan during the AL playoffs (I asked to leave work early to get home in time for the start of Game 7 against the Yankees).
Traffic was bad on the way to my house, as it always is at that time of day, so he kept changing his route. Which doesn't get us there any faster. He would rather keep moving than get there fast. He also honks his horn a lot at inappropriate times, like if we're in a line of 6 cars and the light turns green, he will lay on the horn immediately--surely he must know it takes time for everybody to get going. I think in my 23 years of driving, I've used my horn to prompt someone to go maybe 5 times, and it's when they clearly aren't paying attention. He drives that way all the time, but this was in my neighborhood which made it extra embarrassing.
The car actually isn't finished yet, because they didn't realize they'd have to essentially take the whole thing apart. It will be ready in a couple of hours. Mr. S will probably want to drive me down there. But I'd just as soon walk. It's not that far, just a mile or so.
I have to miss tennis tonight because Mack has a band concert at school. I don't mind. I'm actually not enjoying this class all that much.
Mr. S gets weird things in the mail. I'm going to make that a separate entry, later.

How can you function with only one book at a time?? What do you do when you get bored ten pages in but can't bring yourself to admit defeat? That's when I open Book #2. Then I usually decide I need something lighter, and open Book #3. Then I always have my gym book, which stays in my gym bag. Etcetera. Etcetera.
Maybe this is why my book memory is so truly awful.
The bus is my mode of transportation which makes it very hard for me to have and keep a job because of the "bus system". I often walk because I can beat the bus home. I'm totally ignorant when it comes to vehicles.
Taking the bus sounds like *quite* the ordeal. Yowzers. I'm uber happy you're getting your car back soon and then - maybe even a new one! Woot!
Sum
Mr S would love driving in India, using the horn is part of the "driving by sonar" method they use.
What instrument does Mack play?
Mr. S is such an asshat. He seems too stupid to be true, but he is!
I'd say go with something that'll last. If you're going to invest a lot of money, get something that's worth it!
Good luck!
You can get a new car at a used price, WAY below invoice that way.
I'm looking forward to the "mail" entry
I will admit this: I'm an abnoxious driver. But only when I'm alone. If I have someone else in my car, I'm on my best behavior. I'd hate for someone to blog about my driving! ROFL...
Does Mr. S have a thing for you? Seems he always latches onto things that have something to do with you. That'd be kinda creepy.
