Since some of you (okay, one of you) asked about the Singer-Songwriters concert (it's a concert, not a contest [not sure if I said contest or if a comment did, but that's how rumors get started, and I am most definitely not a singer or a songwriter]), here's a review of the San Francisco show from Saturday night.
I could post fabulous review after fabulous review, but this gives you an idea. Essentially it's an acoustic evening (guitars only, apparently) with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, and Dar Williams.
Although it's been variously called the Singer-Songwriters Tour and sometimes just the Songwriters Tour, and sometimes The Tour With No Name, the performers themselves call it the Mail Order Brides From Hell Tour. What's not to love about that?
This is my favorite kind of music, stripped down folky-bluesy, little bit country-little bit rock 'n roll kinda stuff. Mary Chapin Carpenter has long been one of my favorites, as has Shawn Colvin. Some of my other favorites are Lucy Kaplansky (who should probably put me on staff since I've sold so many of her CDs by word of mouth) and Alice Peacock, though her last album was hardly "stripped down" (she also has a very fine website).
I can't tell you how much I can't wait.
Oh, and I'm probably going to cheat on Dr. Atkins today. It just seems like too good a day to be so restricted. I have lost 10 lbs., though, so I'll be back to it tomorrow.

I've lost over 25 lbs. on Atkins...for the 2nd time
But I concur...you can't not enjoy yourself once in a while. This time when I want something "forbidden" I eat it and jump back on the diet the next day.
Hey, my point wasn't made that you can write a mediocre book! No, I think you'd write a great book that would get popular and enjoy success like Nick Hornby's...
Want me to send you the book so you can judge for yourself??
Geez, I'm sorry if I sounded like a jerk. Yeah, that wasn't really that thought out. Whoops.
You can do it! You are doing great on Nanowrimo! I am impressed with you. I am still stuck at 10000 words... my husband what I have so far and liked the first chapter, but for some reason his reading of it has paralyzed me...
I apologize for leaving a rude comment on yardenxanthe's site, too. I was actually talking about Nick Hornby's writing not yours. But, I can see how it came off all snooty! Tons of props to you for actually keeping up with nanowrimo. I actually dropped out at 1600 words. Doh!
I actually enjoy your writing quite a lot. I lurk here all the time! Your office stories crack me up, because I can so relate. And I also love hearing about your kids and tennis obsession.
I actually enjoy your writing quite a lot, too. But then again, you already know that
Dude, I also lurk here ALL the time, too, like I have no life of my own. But of course you know that already. :)
And crikey, I read 'contest,' too, because I'm a speed reader, and I always miss out the important shtuff because of that. Still, I'm thinking of you as ordered.
