The day of the death... this tradition comes from way back before the arrival of the spaniards. Then with the spanish conquest and christianism the catholic celebrations mixed with the prehispanic celebrations.
But the main idea of it all is celebrating the death. Remember all those who were once alive and belive they can come back and share a night with us, That is what the altars are made for, there are flowers, food, drinks... of course deatch can not eat nor take with them any of the stuff, but they enjoy it by breatihng it. I have never been to any traditional celebration, I have heard that they are really great, spetially the one held in Michoacan on the lake of Patzcuaro.
Besides the altars there is also all the traditions around it, like the "calaveras" short comic poems about friends and family having to do with death, there is also de "calaveritas" colorfull sugar skulls.
In xanga we were all bloging
and the death decided to join.
he visited every blog
and left rarely any props.
And those who did not left comments
she decided to bring along.
