Today I spent some time with some of my classmates (of the few I really like) working on the synopsis for our adaptation workshop. What do you think of what we came up with?
It is December the 6th, St Niciolas day, Vlad and Lukas are on guard at the police station, and Lukas is playing chess against the computer while Vlad is reading a porno magazine. The phone rings a long time without Vlad picking it up, Lukas gets upset and goes to get it, just when he arrives next to it Vlad take it. Mikael, a great chess player has been killed in the towel of his palace.
On the way to the crime scene Lukas and Vlad try to figure out what happened, Vlad is sure it is just another boring crime, Lukas seems sure that there is more to it, they make a bet just before the car breaks down close to the palace.
Vlad tries to repair the car, Lukas anxious to arrive to the crime scan decides to live the car behind. When he arrives to the room when Mikael has been killed he figures out that Vlad was right, it is just a regular crime.
Since he does not want to lose the bet he takes advantage of his partners absence to disguise the crime. He steals the towel from a chess set that is next to him and quickly types a note that he lives next to the body "the towel is down, the game must continue". When finally Vlad arrives he admits that there might be more to it than just a normal crime.
Christmas eve arrives and Lukas celebrates it in his family ranch, at midnight the door bell rings he opens the door to find a chess case in the door steps with a paper that reads "who will it be next?" almost instantly he hears the horses in the stable,: one of his servants has been killed and on his hand holds the a horse from a chess set and a paper "the game most go on", knowing that the first crime had been of his making Lukas panics.
Next day at the police station Vlad comes with the money from the bet, Lukas wants to forget about the bet but Vlad insists.
For new years eve there is a party at the police station. Just when a toast is about to be made they hear a gun shot, everybody goes out to find the fool of the town dead once more he holds a piece of chess and a paper " the game most go on". Lukas is now sure someone is playing with him. That afternoon an another crime is announced, a hooker has been killed, when they get to the crime Vlad recognizes the girl "Fuck! Couldn't they have killed another one? She was the queen of hookers!" when he heard the word queen Lukas goes quickly to inspect the had on the body, she has the queen on her hand and the note "is this the last one?" Lukas can not believe it. It is simply too much, Vlad tries to clam him down.
A month after the first crime, on January the 6th Lukas gets a letter. Just before opening it Vlad comes to remind him that the kings cake is about to be cut. Lukas puts the letter in his pants and goes join the others, when cutting the cake he gets the price and he is crowned as the king. When the celebration is over Lukas decides to read the letter "If you want to finish the game come see me at the old house on river street at midnight". Lukas puts the letter away and goes back to work.
When Lukas enters the abandoned house he distinguishes a big table with a huge chess game already started, at the other end a shadow. " So are you ready to finish the game? "As he gets closer the shadow shoots him and as he falls we see Vlad in front of him taking the king off the game "mate!" and walking out calmly.
