  • let me 'splain, no there is too much...

    ...let me sum up.

well folks, it's been over a month since my last post and there has been a lot happen in-between then. for your reading pleasure, I've broken up this post into sections so that you can take smoke breaks all throughout.

    it's official:............
we got our tickets in the mail and we are going to China. we leave on Sept. 19th and will be back on Dec. 19th. everyone's asking, so just so you know, we'll be in the air for over 24 hours (with a short stop in Hong Kong). hopefully I'll be doing my student teaching, and we'll definitely be teaming up with Juliann to do... whatever it is that she does. . yes, I'm excited but not overly because that brings me to my next section....

dreams take a lot more planning than you'd think.
I remember growing up and thinking it so romantic to toss everything to the wind and leave for a new land with new promises and a new outlook on the horizon. it's funny though. tossing everything to the wind means training someone at your job to take your tossed place, and packing up all the stuff to be tossed into storage (or tossed in the garbage, resulting in a semi tossed marriage if you catch my drift). there have been so many details involved in this trip, and I would love to just stop whatever I'm doing and go at a moment's notice but then what if you get there and realize that you have mistakenly packed for the summer and are freezing the whole time that you're there! all this to say, dreams involve preparation. don't kid yourself. that trip to Italy probably won't start to be romantic until you get there... and even then, not until after you get over the jet lag... probably a week later. not to be a wet blanket or anything, but I definitely wasn't prepared for all of that.

it's hard to say goodbye, Lord knows I'm not good at it.
I recently got a facebook account, and I actually cried over the thought of one of my good friends here becoming a facebook friend. I don't like to trade the real thing for a virtual reality. I guess it's better than nothing at all. it's funny how I love progress but hate change.

    School went splendidly.
I would recommend the TESL program at TWU to anyone I know. it was a rare occasion that I found myself not enjoying a class or professor, and I feel like I learned so much more about teaching and communication than I ever would have through overseas experience. I definitely could have done without the 3 hours of commuting every day, but I was truly sad to see classes come to an end. and that's saying something.

    Justin did it again...
He threw me my best and only graduation party. not only that, he pulled it off by arranging to kidnap me and getting 20 or so people to spray me down, like a wet dog, with silly string, yeeesh. I was one confused [but happy] girl. and as if that wasn't enough, THEN he pulled out this nice sleek new LAPTOP complete with power point remote and carrier bag and gave it to me as my graduation present, for use in the classroom and otherwise. I think the only time I have ever been more shocked was when he proposed. I definitely did not see that one coming.

getting married right next to labor day was the smartest thing we ever did:...
because we will always have a three day weekend. brilliant. it's been two years; can you believe it? it's weird to think through all the memories all over again and consider the absurd way we met and fell in love. seriously, God's mercy. we are celebrating our 2 year anniversary in Seattle. I am currently sitting atop Peet's coffee with my new laptop and a swell caramel macchiato. oh! I have a hotel recommendation! we stumbled across it, but would definitely without a doubt stay there again. www.hoteldeca.com check it out. the lounge is GREAT. I do love Seattle... hmmm.

Ok well.... enough about me. have a great weekend, friends. I think about you often and smile as I do so.

totally know what you mean about "tossing" everything... I miss those days... our days of travelling... enjoy them, and think of me while you're doing it and how much I would love to be doing that again!  (I'm sure we'll get our chance again someday when the kids are grown, but for now... well... its not gonna happen.)

    We'll miss you two!
